don't cops who go undercover break the law to blend in somtimes?

If so do what happens to them?

Cute true story. The cops were out to get a guy on some false charges. They put a case of beer in the back of a pickup and the undercover cop 'stole' the beer and was going to drive away with it. The guy they were trying to snare saw the cop do it and insisted that the cop put the beer back in the truck since it didn't belong to him.

I saw a video about that. They’re given blanket permission to break minor laws like littering or jaywalking but they need specific permissions to break laws like theft or drug sales. If they don’t have permission and do it anyway then they face an inquiry and possible charges.

They're in most cases allowed to break the law unless they're causing direct harm to someone I think. Like doing drugs to fit in is typically allowed, for example.

@CountScrofula but if some regular person did the same they'd punish them that's a little unfair at least to me

@Prettybrat The nature of police is that they're not there to fairly enforce the law. They're there to enforce a certain social order which is to some peoples' benefit more than others.

It's why stealing a hundred bucks is likely to get you a far harsher sentence than embezzling millions.

This looks like a good place to mention that old meme about you can always out a cop by asking if he or she is a cop because they are legally required to answer truthfully. That is complete and utter bullshit, as common sense alone should tell people.
They die and their families get a cheque for $500.
