I'm being forced to attend church tomorrow for Easter, I'm not Christian, what should I do? [Spirituality & Religion]

Should I pretend to enjoy it, or tell them how I really feel?

I'm not Christian, but my family is. I think it would be fake of me to go, and also disrespectful to the religion.

If it doesn't ruin your day, and gives peace to the house, just go.

If it would make you feel better about it, during the service just yell out...

"What time do we kill the chickens? Who brought the chickens? Give me a f****** chicken!!!! Where is the Easter egg buffet?"

Lol, you shouldn't be forced to go places you don't wanna go, you're an adult. Smh!!!

I agree!!!!!

What context would you tell the congregation your feelings about religion under I wonder? Stand up and proclaim it to them at some point during the mass? lol I agree with Halcyon. You're not going to find faith. You are going to spend time with and please your family. Suck it up and go. What does it matter if you believe in the religion or not? It's a couple of hours.

either go with them till you are out of the house or tell them what you feel.. you will eventually have to come clean about your thoughts.

Just remember... Though it may upset and annoy those around you, you must always remain true to yourself.
Since it is family holiday I would go and not say anything. Take paper and pen to have something to make scribbles on. They will think you are taking notes😁

Great idea! haha

Your family is - were you raised Christian? What did you do for Christmas?
originalGOS · 26-30, F
Raised, yes. I do not practice it now.
Longlegs2014 · 61-69, M
Then it wouldn't hurt to go with your family. You don't have to fake it, nor do you need to be disrespectful.

And somehow, don't think Easter Sunday would be the best time to say you don't believe in religion...

Just go. It's important to your family and you don't have to believe in order to be there.

i'm not saying i'm not christian ,i just don't believe in religion.
shadowplay · 22-25, M
i guess if the priest didn't burst into flames ,i won't either.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Say, "I don't want to go"
originalGOS · 26-30, F
I wish it was that easy in my house.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Sometimes you gotta do the unthinkable, I made a scene at our church until I was allowed to stay home and that was when I was a kid so I believe you should be plenty okay.

They can't force you for much longer. Endure it.

Being forced to participate in any religious service against your will is a violation of your civil rights.

I think you should tell them how you really feel. You will prolly then learn how much or how little they care about your feelings and beliefs.

Suck it up, it's family.

Never came to the place to believe the claims of Jesus? That's ok. But perhaps hearing, you might better understand your family's faith.
originalGOS · 26-30, F
I've been hearing it for 18 years; one day isn't going to suddenly make everything make sense.
SW-User
True. It took me 21 years. Thanks for your honesty.
DrakeoMagister · 26-30, M
It is never disrespectful for anyone to attend a church service. If anything, a church should be happy to have the chance to have some one who is not a Christian.
melovemycats · 26-30, F
I'd just suck it up and do it. Hopefully it's just a one-time thing, but if not, tell them how you feel at a later date.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
Be honest and don't go if you don't want to. You're an adult...
Sicarium · 46-50, M
Refuse to go, bear with it, or make an excuse.
shadowplay · 22-25, M
i'm in the same situation !
Suck it up.. It's good for your soul
Firespirit · 26-30, M
Just go along with it
tenente · 100+, M
