I’m having a hard time finding a good church, or overcoming whatever it was that prevents me from going back such as embarrassment or neglect due to s [Spirituality & Religion]

Why do you feel the need to go to church? God's creation is the true church. Going to church for a couple hours a week will not get you to heaven.

@goliathtree So True, I didn't recommend any way or suggest anything about your way which I dont even know about.

@REMsleep I have found that many who go to church regularly do not live the rest of the week according to what is taught there...in many cases that includes the preacher. I don't need that distraction. I do my best (and often fail) to live a good humble life and appreciate the Lord's work around me. I feel that distraction of knowing the actions of the person I am sitting next to are not carried through the rest of the week simply makes me more judgmental. Yes, this is all a judgmental statement, but if I avoid those distractions, I am better able to concentrate on my own actions.

@goliathtree My husband too. I was taught differently. I do believe in "not forsaking fellowship/assembly".
Full disclosure tho I haven't gone to church regularly in years.
But, I dont look to the pastor or church members for much of anything.I see the pastor as a living sometimes faulty vessel. Like a radio on the fritz. I pray prior to receiving any word for my own understanding in spirit and if I disagree I'm not confrontational. I just strike what he said down as not word I was given. Pastors are just human. I try hard but I'm sure I've disappointed someone with my behavior too. If my grievances are too strong or major false doctrine is taught then I will not go to that particular place anymore. People making mistakes in good faith is one thing. Running a den of thieves is another.
I go to show my respect to God in his house on consecrated ground, to encourage myself and other believers, to financially support the ongoing of his kingdom and to learn from others. Plus many more
I understand how you feel.

A church is just a building, the pastor and his congregation make it a place of God, or not.

The true Church will not reject you. I suggest you find a partner in faith - someone who can hold you accountable for growing in your capability to take part in the Church's life. I think if you just explain your situation to them, someone could come along and help you do these things. I know I would.

Let not people convince you taking part in church life is not important. It is. Church is the body of Christ; if you love Christ, you will love His body, too. You don't have to start big - just start socializing with devout Christians more.

Same. I've given up the search for a church of my particular faith (Episcopalian Christian) that isn't snooty or judgmental.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Your best bet would be one that is a non-denominational church that takes the Word of God seriously.
purplepen · 51-55, F
Yes, it's hard especially if you have health conditions that they don't understand or care about.

I've dropped out of churches after they played games and preached very pointedly about people who don't attend regularly.

There are tons of churches in my area, but this is a very cold, hard-hearted city (I won't say where), and of course the churches reflect the culture as they try to fit into it and be cool.

I 100% agree!@purplepen

REMsleep · 41-45, F
@AMERICA1ST Wow yes there are terrible churches. I've been in them.
Very important to go to a good church.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@AMERICA1ST
what makes one church better than another if they practice the same religion? is there such thing as a bad church?
A great church is non-denominational and follows the Word of God. A bad church is denominational and all they care about is their organized religion.
I always thought big G would rather play golf Sunday morning then listen to ppl gather and praise him..
like guys.. you been doing it every Sunday forever.. I’d say he knows you’re a fan.. 👌
