Which would you think is a harder choice? Becoming an atheist as a kid/teen or becoming one as an adult? [Spirituality & Religion]

I decided to stop believing in God at an early age. Probably about 10 or younger. Problem is that my impending doom totally freaked me out as a kid. Thinking about how I would no longer exist at a certain point in the future.

I've come to terms with it now. I was just wondering about people that became atheist later on in life. How did it make you feel?

Both are equally as hard but I'd say probably an atheist as a kid, they live in religious households and could be at risk of getting into the system if their families reject them. There's actually a fairly good amount of LGBT youth out on the streets because their families rejected them out of religious beliefs or they just get kidnapped to one of those religious camps in some developing country.

It's just like with the Amish if you ever seen that one reality show where they show youth wanting to go out into the world away from their community. They are completely banned from their families except the ones who visit them.

So this is just my opinion but kids are way vulnerable, they don't even have a job or any autonomy by that age.

Went from atheist to believer
@SW-User seems pretty common. That's what happened when my best friend met his gf

@GuyThatEvery1Seems2Hate no, this was not because of anyone. It was the uncertainty that drove me into a search for an answer that is coherent with everything and makes sense

I didn't decide to stop believing. I stopped believing because the claim that a god exists has not met its burden of proof and the evidence we can examine very noticeably contradicts what we would expect to find if a god existed.

Maybe a god exists but it is just a super being and we are of no more interest to it than the average pebble is to us. In that case there's no reason to act as though one exists at all let alone worship it.

As an adult.

I became one as a teenager.

I think it was probably easier for me doing it young.

Felt abandoned. Like the universe didn't care about me.

I stopped when I was 13. Idk what would be harder. But good question

There are no such people that are atheists. As long as your alive, you're going to believe some type of god and have faith in that god. As for your question, it's harder for an adult to stop trusting in the one true God than it is for a kid to stop trusting Him.

I went the other way. I was an atheist though out my teens and twenties. I became a Christian when I was almost 30.

@Pikachu
I'll keep thinking for you
I'll be praying for you.
@GodSpeed63

Pray all you want. But do you know what would be more useful?

Show me that your priority is actually truth and not your pride.
Show me that as a christian you are HONEST or else why should i believe a dishonest man?

Why are you so afraid to answer such a simple question?

I’m not sure how one “decides” not to believe in something. One either believes or they don’t. You can decide not to tell anyone, and as a child it’s probably easier to do that, since you’re less likely to have much choice.
@bijouxbroussard I "decided" not to believe in God because of of a number of reasons. I come from a Catholic school, so the idea of "God" is basically law. Classmates will constantly belittle you and question atheists as unenlightened and stupid.
@GuyThatEvery1Seems2Hate I attended Catholic school too, and back then I believed, as I was still young and malleable. I stopped believing much later when what I’d been taught stopped making sense to me and seemed much more like folklore and superstition than fact. That seemed like enlightenment. It would’ve been much more difficult to have reached that epiphany as a child.

I'm heartily sorry that you were treated badly by your Catholic classmates I know how that can be. I grew up Catholic and was scared to death of God because I didn't know Him on a personal basis. It wasn't until I met Jesus Christ and asked Him into my heart that I've got to know God personally and have a reverence for Him.
