Is there any religion you think should be banned? [Spirituality & Religion]

Longleggedlady · 31-35, F
No people have the right to practice whichever religion they choose. What they don't have the right to do is use religious beliefs to impact on other peoples lives. There is no religion that if you go to its purest form encourages or condones killing people. That is a bunch of idiots using it as an excuse to do that regardless of which it is including Christianity
Longleggedlady · 31-35, F
@JustLikeGreta not the true ones there atr lunatics in everyone religion that distort to suit their purposes. I don't think there is one religion that could hold up there hand and say that they have never committed one horrible act in it's name
SW-User
Therefore they're all equal?

Buddhism and a religion founded by a warrior who slaughtered countless people?

You don't think what they teach is relevant?

And btw take Islam to it's purest form you get Islamic State or the Wahhabis

You don't think they might know slightly more than you about what Islam teaches

Given the damage Islam does in the world your complacent and parochial ignorance is actually evil

The human rights abuses where women and homosexuals are publicly whipped under Sharia for moral crimes, the blasphemy and apostasy laws, laws where it is legal to marry a nine year old because Mohamed did it

The tens of thousands of people killed in Islam's name each year

The shameful persecution of apostates even in the West

The indoctrination of children

The misogyny where you and any female children you have are labelled 'uncovered meat and 'mud surrounded by flies' by Islamic leaders

The murder of schoolchildren by Bono Haram because Western education is sinful

Girls pushed back into a burning building because they are 'uncovered'

You're perpetuating lies on the basis you're being 'nice' to everyone, while enjoying a life of comfort and privledge

You and your ilk disgust me

when good men do nothing....

But you don't do nothing

you're a tool

an insipid mouthpiece enabling violence and oppression

Banned by the government, no.
I'd like to see religions go away by people just leaving them.
@FreeSpirit1 I agree.

@kartoffelkopf2 when did that become a religion
gol979 · 41-45, M
@kartoffelkopf2 a dude saying feminism should be banned.......legend 👍
Sicarium · 46-50, M
I'd be tempted to ban Islam, but no.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@KENZtheFRENZ That's pretty broad. But essentially people should be as free as possible to think for themselves and express that thinking freely, but that means all people, not just this offended group or that protected group. Everything else flows from that.
KENZtheFRENZ · 31-35, F
@Sicarium When you say people should be as free as possible to think for themselves and express that thinking freely, does that mean you think people should be as free as possible to deceive themselves and express that lie freely? Because that leads to false accusation and that's immoral and severely frowned on. I agree with freedom of speech except when it involves lying about people. That's where a very clear line must be drawn. What do you think about that?
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@KENZtheFRENZ Yes. And that's why we have due process and the presumption of innocence, for when people do express a false allegation. Outside of a court of law we also have libel and slander laws to (hopefully) limit that behavior. Not much else you can do without trampling rights.

More generally, if someone isn't allowed to express a false belief, how are they ever going to know it's false? A lie assumes motive. It is possible for people to simply be wrong without any intent to deceive. Separating those two when it comes to rights would be a nightmare.

@gol979 Did you think that comment up all on your own? I couldn’t care less what Dawkins’ opinion on the matter is. If you’d like to discuss why my opinion is what it is, we can do so. Though, it looks like you’re incapable of thinking for yourself, so perhaps we shouldn’t waste our time.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Imsleepy I thought that all on my own 👍 please educate me

@Imsleepy It makes him feel better to mock you because it excuses him from having to think or take a moral stand

@SW-User why?
I don't know. I am an American so I'm all into that first amendment thing.
JimboUk · 31-35, M
What good does banning an idea have? Jews didn't even have a country to defend them for thousands of years. Were truly discriminated against by the powers of their day and yet Judaism still is going strong. Banning an idea, even trying to kill them has never worked. What you suppress comes back with an vengeance.
@JimboUk Just a question. I believe in freedom of religion, unless u want me dead because of my religious beliefs. I am very much in support of Jews.
JimboUk · 31-35, M
@JustLikeGreta Im glad to hear you do.Judaism was just an example.

KENZtheFRENZ · 31-35, F
@gol979 Mainly because of the way it treats women. It's the most sexist religion in the world.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@KENZtheFRENZ that's not just Islam......a huge slice of global society treat women (individually and institutionally) as second class citizens
KENZtheFRENZ · 31-35, F
@gol979 Not where I come from, they don't. They haven't behaved like that around here for decades now, and they'd better not start if they know what's good for them.
@JustLikeGreta and if you can believe the stories of former members they are a cult - hope they aren't listening

I think anyone can practice any belief , as long as they don't harm others as result of their beliefs and respect each other.
It doesn't mean you have to like what and how they worship.
ItsGonnaBeOk · 26-30, M
Banned like illegal?
It's human rights people wouldn't be happy even non religious.
@ItsGonnaBeOk Simply not allowed, as it would harm the population.
ItsGonnaBeOk · 26-30, M
@JustLikeGreta yeah I understand, some people can too uptight or extreme.
But if you took away all the tightness and extremeness it can be something harmless
Catholicism.Rejected by me 14.
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I was raised Catholic. Left that religion. But I cannot see having it banned.
@JustLikeGretaIt would never be banned but I remember the Priest coming round and wiping the floor with my parents because they wouldn't send me to a Catholic school. And I remember all the things I was told would happen to me if I didn't go to church.Well 47 years as an atheist and nothing terrible has happened yet...
@TheSirfurryanimalWales They do use a lot of scare tactics. I never believed I would go to hell for not attending mass on a Sunday. And I rejected the idea of not using birth control. I wish they would let third world countries know that birth control is a good thing.
No. Certain individuals hurt others and hide behind the excuse of religion

Banned, no...However, remove them from the civil "Commons" so no belief is foisted on another. Dont integrate with govt, school, workplace, etc. Personal beliefs are great if varied. Foisting upon others transforms organized religion into a tool for power, repression, and rankism.

No, but they shouldn't be exempt from hate speech laws.
Northerner · 70-79, M
I would be happy to have no religion. It is a distraction of life.
Religions thrive on martyrdom, that would just promote them.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!
Peaches · F
Scientology should be.

Zonuss · 41-45, M
Not really banned. But I would use caution with certain ones. I dont believe that people should be indoctrinated by any type of extreme ideology because it can be dangerous. Thats just my opinion.
