Such a law implies a presumption that an "almighty god" isn't able to defend itself, that it needs man to defend it. In the UK, only the christian god is considered to need that protection, other gods are presumed to be powerful enough to look after themselves.
Your logic is a bit off. Personally I'm not against laws protecting people from hate speech (which these types of laws really should be about) but at the same time we also have free speech and that is a legitimate defence.

I like how my nation specifically says you can get 1 year in prison but never has actually prisoned anyone over it lol
@suzie1960 antidisestablishmentarianism. Longest word in the English language. You know why it exists yeah?

@Qwerty14 You're out of date. The longest word in any major English dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis - a lung disease.

There have been several calls over the years for separation of church and state. It will happen one day.
@suzie1960 Lol that's a silly made up term. No one actually uses it. I doubt a dictionary would actually list it, especially given it is a medical term. Maybe in a medical dictionary?

All blasphemy laws should be removed. The main thing is they are open to interpretation and they also alienate minorities while being in favor of a majority. It's totalitarian because it's making something concrete out of an abstract idea.

First of all, people wrote those books 2000 years ago where screwing animals was legal, public executions legal, stoning women, children and men legal, slavery was thought to be a public service (even though it isn't.)

In countries that have no religious freedom and guided by mostly blasphemy laws, it's like that.

We see what happens with them, it's not something that should be apart of civilized society.

I hope your country smartens up and abolishes such an out dated notion of law. My own contry's blasphemy law was a source of shame to me most of my life, even though it had not been enforced for nearly a century. It was very inappropriate for a secular nation to pass such a law in the first place. On the bright side, it was removed from law just over a year ago. Don't give up hope. I'm convinced your government will be secular one day. Keep fighting the good fight.

@Dolimyte The UK is really a theocracy as the Head of State is a religious leader - the head of the Church of England. That link needs to be broken.

@suzie1960 I agree. Its a very old fashioned way of doing things that needs to end so that society can move forward.

Actually it doesn't defend god but the sensibilities of the believers, the blasphemous mediatic intent is obviously not to challenge god but yo mock a religious group. If you say it only protects Christians, when is the last time you've seen the media attack or portray muslim god and prophets or any other religion?

So you are saying that you as a wiccan are no better than the christians you hate? doesn't that type of behavior go againsst the wiccan faith?

and how i knew you were enraged is because you blasted me for it. you were not just a tad put out, you were furious at the fact i might have prayed for you even though you never asked me not to. the subject had never come until i told another person i was praying for them. you literally became unhinged.

i disagree with chritians who act as you descrie but given how you treat them i can understand it. that doesn't make it right. we are called to be witnesses not to make people change their minds.

but if you had no issues and were totally happy and serene as you said you would not react the way you do. you would slough it off your back like water but instead you get pissed. that is undealt with agression coming out not at the people who hurt you but at everyone else.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@ladycae What gives you the idea I'm a Wiccan just because I show them the same respect they show others? I treat people, including christians, they way they treat me.

I became unhinged? LOL!!!! Whatever gave you that idea? I admit I was annoyed at the way you ignored another person's feeling by praying for them when it was clear it would offend them. As an Atheist I do find it somewhat offensive for a christian to pray for me. Do you think most christians would be happy for a Satanist to pray to Satan to help lead them away from their god? As all non-christians are supposed to be in league with "the Devil", why is it any different when christians pray for non-christians to be led to the christian god?

You seem to be getting a bit upset now. Maybe you're not as much at peace as you profess to be.
ladycae · 100+, F
@suzie1960 that is not what i pray. you are making an assumption, i pray for their health and well beinng as an act of charity. hahahaha i am not a all anoyed i just think you need to be a bit more honest and not chage your words to suit your narative.

apologies for thinking you were wiccan, you just talk about them a lot and use them in examples and i happen to findmany things about them pretty great.

and any satanist can pray that al he wants. satan can't sway me, i've seen too much and been through to much and my faith is solid as a rock.

Actually, in this case, I think it has less to do with a presumption that the Almighty cannot defend himself, and more with the Church of England (meaning-- state endorsed religion).

Because, you see, like obscenity, one requires a clear definition of what "blasphemous" is (and that requires ONE doctrine of beliefs), since it varies from person to person.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@GwydionFrost Shouldn't the almighty be allowed to decide for itself what it considers and take its own action?
GwydionFrost · 56-60, M
@suzie1960 Ah, there is the rub. Man making decisions not meant for man to make.
