People said the lockdown would spur a baby boom?

The US population woulda been declining for a pretty long time now, were it not for immigration. Immigration will presumably continue to supplement the population after lockdown ends.

We’ll be all right - maybe actions will finally be taken to make it easier for young people to have children. It’s been heading here for a while.

Yeah, because who can afford to raise a child these days? Most people can barely afford rent and food, let alone all the expenses of a newborn! Plus, have you seen the state of the world? Who would want to bring someone else into this?

Well, yeah! Any delivery person could have told you that was going to be the case...I couldn’t tell you how many homes I walked past and heard a divorce-in-progress argument coming from inside. Turns out you may love your SO, but spending 24/7 inside the same house with them will soon cure that for a good number of couples.

I found this surprising as well.

I can’t blame someone for not wanting to bring a child into the world as it is now. I don’t think our population will shrink yet. I think this is just a temporary slowing due mainly to the pandemic. It’s probably affecting many other developed nations.

i would like to have a child very much, but when i made a budget, i realized i wouldn't be able to afford it. i decent middle-class job. but i just couldn't afford childcare.

People say very little about the decline in human fertility and sexuality.

I hope so.

Maybe people are not getting out and about.
