Why is fascism popular again?

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Because in any historical period where the right wing has majority, every problem is caused by people not like them !
The poor.
The foreigners.
The criminals.
The gays.
The unemployed.
The immigrants.
etc.

Blame setting is their stock in trade and it appeals to poor thinkers. Their core vote.
Carver · 31-35, F
You can thank the left for that.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Carver strong nationalistic and often racial idealization surrounding an autocratic or authoritarian minded leader? Or did you have a different definition?
Carver · 31-35, F
@ViciDraco Nevermind, I can already tell this isn’t going to go anywhere. Let’s skip to the part where we agree to disagree.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Carver very well
We haven't really had democracy for that long, and if you look at communism as sort of a parralel evolution thing of fascism from socialism, some of the core features never really became unpopular for very long.

When people are unhappy with their governments and their lives, I think they're easy prey for any kind of demagoguery and authoritarianism is really the obvious choice for power hungry and self interested leaders who have little regard for the welfare of anyone but themselves.

It's a combination between stagnating living standards in the western world, fears of multiculturalism and political disillusionment.

Also, the mainstream right has in many places co opted some of the world view and tenants of fascism.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
The same reason as ever ; economic deprivation and the scapegoating of immigrants.
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
Because dumbshits don’t learn from history
anathemaJack · 46-50, M
Because of poor immigration polices by those on the left and the right.
It's almost sickening how cyclical it all is.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@anathemaJack immigration definitely needed addressing. But it was actually in it's best state in decades as Trump took office. And the focus has been entirely wrong as the vast majority of illegal immigrants are here on overstayed Visas. They entered legally but didn't leave on time.
curiosi · 61-69, F
The greatest generation raised the WORST generation who went on to infect their children who infected their children.
anathemaJack · 46-50, M
@curiosi Yes. Oh my yes.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Is it? I would say right now it's more progressive thought on the rise than fascist. Of course, the two are kissing cousins in many respects.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@ravenwind43 Hillary can call herself a progressive. Just as North Korea calls themselves a democratic republic. You can say it but it isn't true 😏

Hillary's problem is that it's hard to know what she is because she reinvents herself constantly to appeal to what she believes is popular at the time. At the end of the day though, her record is that of a corporatist.

There was a documentary called The Choice I think, which was trying to tear down and expose Trump to which I think it did a decent job. But it was trying to build Hillary up as this person who constantly rose up above adversity. But she always did it by changing who she was. They tried to sell it off as a strength, but to a critical thinker it meant she was an unknown quantity. You couldn't trust her to stand up for her beliefs because she never really did before. That's not a progressive. That's a focus group construct.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@ViciDraco It doesn't matter to me what she calls herself since I can't stand her lol.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@ravenwind43 agreed.
SW-User
I think people who follow such beliefs equate it with order and stability.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@SW-User maybe? Seems like a lot of fear mongering to me though. Manufacturing enemies from minor threats.
SW-User
@ViciDraco True. That’s why I think the order they believe in is good v bad.
katielass · F
It's been popular among dumdums all along.
Because white supremacy is.
