Criminal Governor? The governor of California accepted three and a half billion dollars from the federal gov't to build a high speed railway and now..

says the railway is cancelled and he will NOT return the money to the federal government.

Three and a half billion is quite a bit of money to steal so publicly...at least, in my humble opinion.

Thoughts?
Comrade Trumpski did not give California $3.5 billion dollars. Obama gave that money to California for this project in 2010. That money has long since been eaten up with the beginning phase of the high speed rail system. Saying "I will not send it back to Trump" was used as propaganda fodder by the right wing and FAUX "news" (lol) to make it look like Trump gave Cali that money in the beginning but now they're keeping it. That is not true.

Ain't GOOGLE amazing. In less time that it took to type "how in this world would you find out that kind of information"---you can find link after link.
@4meAndyou Thank you Emily Post. I'll keep that in mind.

@anythingoes477 You really don't wish to have a discussion if you fling insults.

Typical leftist maneuver.
This kind of crap is getting a lot more visible these days despite MSM efforts to hide it.
Dems are toast.
Sounds sort of like "Atlas shrugged" The Movie.
@soar2newhighs Or anymore...IDIOCRACY. That was meant as a movie but half of America evidently thought it was a tutorial.
Had to do with high speed rail-my point. Not political per se.@anythingoes477

okay Mr Baby Whale, or is it germanic offspring of Wales?
you seem very afraid and angry!

so is there a state where EVERY ONE is good?
@SatyrService Pretty typical response actually from that side of the fence. Name calling beats facts. If you press for facts then you hear "yeah but what about what Bill Clinton did" (TWENTY SEVEN YEARS )...and if you send a "lol" back to that then the name calling starts again. It's a side effect of Kool Aid.

@anythingoes477 He's just drunk. Don't pay him any mind. Usually he's pretty funny.
Having been in the Government (now retired) for 37 years, it does not surprise me that a situation like this could occur. I always would ask, WAS AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDY DONE BEFORE ANY $$$ WENT OUT TO ANYBODY?? Building a railroad, Hi speed or otherwise is not a necessarily simple issue...there are those who will be impacted.
4meAndyou · F
@soar2newhighs No, I am entirely serious. I am just mistaken, in that it was not a clam but an endangered tidewater goby, which is a small fish. My memory was never perfect. I read a LOT but I don't always remember it perfectly.

There was a water shortage in California before the drought. Farmers were fighting for water, but a large percentage of the available water was being diverted to a bay that had an endangered species of tidewater goby.

I had to look up BOHICA...😂
If memory serves me too, I'm getting "up there", Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer was involved in a decision on that, I believe.@4meAndyou

@soar2newhighs I never researched who was responsible, but California does have a massive record of being environmentally conscious (or is that self conscious?) 😉. Anyway, their track record really makes me feel as though they had to have submitted an environmental study to Congress when they requested the money for this railroad.
give it back. BUT it is worth noting

California has most every year, sent more money TO Washington

not like most of the Red States, that get, more than they give.

that or BUild the Rail Line!
@4meAndyou back in a second! Ill have those links.

@4meAndyou @Bagalamaga
cali has been slipping in recent years...

folks in 36 states, get back MORE than $1 for each one sent

folks in 14 states, get back less than $1 for each $1 they spend in taxes.

note the point where it breaks from gets more to gets less per dollar
Georgia lowest negative,, California highest positive

@SatyrService Ohhh. Well, not surprised. I think he's quite drunk.

It's California, so it's not surprising.
The administration is trying through legal means as necessary to either recoup or not give $292 million (I believe) toward that rail fantasy.
@soar2newhighs The $3 billion was a GRANT---not a loan. And the government COMMITTED the rest of the money--already budgeted the rest as a GRANT. Grants are NOT repayable. Loans are repayable---not grants. The money was NEVER a government loan to California to demand repayment of. Just because a con man is trying like hell to steal money from every outstanding military and civil project out there so he can build a few miles of wall to quiet Hannity and Coulter down--don't mean once money is budgeted by CONGRESS for specific purposes that it can be stolen and used for something else...........without congressional approval. Something Trump does NOT have.
That may be true, but after 13 years, that "rail fantasy" is in the toilet. The Gov't won't shut down or end because they can't recoup what they want-they'll do it on April 15th!@anythingoes477

They gotta feed, house and get free healthcare to those illegals somehow

@SatyrService Interesting, but a very old study. Is there a 2018 or 2019 version of that chart?
@4meAndyou it was a current study,, but the govts facts are often out of date

here is a link from a bloomberg piece

4meAndyou · F
@SatyrService Sorry for the delay. A friend is coming over unexpectedly, and I have to get ready for his visit, but here is something very interesting you might wish to read. There are some charts about halfway down.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/cashing-in-illegal-immigrants-get-1-261-more-welfare-than-american-families-5-692-vs-4-431

It was published February 2019, so it's not out of date.
