Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution: The president shall...give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."
There's no obligation as to how often or how many times such a speech is to be given. And what would it matter if there was? Trump barely knows the Constitution, much less shows any regard at all for his except for how far his powers extend.
What message can Trump deliver on the "state of the union" other than it's closed for business right now? Wouldn't time be better spent negotiating a deal that works for all rather than remind citizens of what they clearly already know?

It also shows him his petty willingness to keep the government locked down until his absolutely non-negotiable demands for a border wall are met is going to have impacts on him, too.

@Mountainlady16 For what? Crime? The vast majority of crimes committed here are done so my American-born citizens. Drugs? 90% of drugs come through legal ports of entry, which a wall would affect in the least. Child trafficking? Gangs? Terrorists? Check your facts on these; they're available almost anywhere.
