I just read a post which was complaining about censorship by the 'anti-free-speech left'.

I politely questioned his argument and asked for specific examples so he blocked me. 🤷
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M Best Comment
Well , well , well ...... I had to do a little bit of detective work to find out who you were talking about and was gobsmacked to discover that he just blocked me too.

It was nothing to do with that question though (he must have blocked me before that) , but rather following a long exchange we had yesterday and today where the main bone of contention revolved around him defending Trump's ludicrous assertion ,when asked at his press conference last week about whether his coming out as a 'nationalist' was a dog-whistle to white supremacists , he replied that the question itself was racist.

I asked him to explain to me how a question about racists was racist and was met with what by now has become his normal barrage of barely coherent nonsense about leftists being intrinsically evil. His punchline was that I was parading 'villainy as virtue' , whatever that means.

This is a guy who I have known for almost ten years online and who , back in the days of ep , I considered a friend although I always knew he was a conservative and he that I was , for want of a better word , a leftist.

To witness such a transformation in someone since Trump was elected has been not only unnerving but , at times , frightening. A more polite , tolerant , intelligent and funny guy you could not wish to meet then and a more bellicose , angry , paranoid and violent person you will not meet now.

I've wondered about it a great deal since the election , not just him but how this maniac in the White House , supported by those screaming idiots on Fox News have irretrievably changed something in American society.

People would call us alarmist and hysterical when we warned about the danger Trump posed and we thought sometimes well maybe they're right. But to witness firsthand a descent into near madness by somebody you used to think was a stand up guy , then I know just how real all this has become.

@RodionRomanovitch He blocked me, more than a year ago, sometime after the 2016 elections. He was never able to back up his claim (except for reposting the debunked accusations about Hillary: child sex ring, international assassin, makes planes fall out of sky, etc).

When I called him on stuff, his only retort was the usual "leftist, blah blah, what about Hillary).

No loss, really. Good riddance. He is now sitting comfortably in his echo chamber.

PS: Yes, I was fooled for about a nanosecond, into thinking he's a rational person. Not really. He is a bona fide racist.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Northwest Like I said he was ok once , but since the election he just became unhinged. And that's another thing I can't work out about them ; up until last week they had the Presidency , the House , the Senate , the Supreme Court and yet still so angry. Why ?
Northwest · M
@RodionRomanovitch I know, it seems as the entire world is aware that Hillary is not on the ballot, Obama is not President, and Soros no longer runs the Government. The fact that they have nothing else to point to, means they're failing and there's nothing else to use as a cover up.

How's that "resolved" N. Korea situation going? How about the Infrastructure? the one thing Democrats would have jumped in head first for? Oh, the GOP did not mean to support that, beyond the elections. How's that big beautiful healthcare?

The SW trumpsters, who crowed about all this, did not mention any of it once, in the period leading up to the midterms, and they're certainly not going to talk about it now.

Let's keep the focus on the 2016 election.

We don't take kindly to your 'fact' 'checking' round these parts.
@Burnley123 I get called cuddly or dumpy
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@InOtterWords definitely cuddly. Dumpy is both a horrible word and also completely ill fitting on you.

They probably already block me. There's this guy, who's been stalking me for months, starting threads to attack me, even started campaigns, in the past, to urge everyone to report me.

He just blocked me. Not sure if this is the same guy who blocked you, but if this is a post in Politics, I can't see it.

@Burnley123 Oh, that fellow blocked me back on EP. He’s a racist to his core—the “I have black friends who tell me what I want to hear or they’re gone” type, much like Trump.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I think we're going to hear a lot more of this anti free speech left stuff soon, as well as cries of leftists being fascists as Trump gets more and more combative and dials up on the anger.

SW is a bizarre little reflection of society, between the anonymity, blocking, and flagging.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MistyCee I mean this is unusual in that it's a self enclosed online community that has all political views. I'm not sure how much is online extremism or how much it reflects actual American politics. Fifty fifty maybe.
@Burnley123 Sounds about right, but I think the online thing makes it much worse. People come here to vent, sometimes, to express anger and frustration, these little wars and "snits" are part of that.
Fernie · F
People who spew that kind of nonsense are ALWAYS spineless cowards who run when questioned. You dodged a bullet
MissPriscillaPrim · 70-79, T
@Fernie Not always. Often, those whose opinions I question reply that I need hospitalization or medication (likely due to my name and icon), or demand a long list of supporting evidence for my thoughts when they provided none for theirs... but yeah, such bullying reveals a cowardice at heart.
Pherick · 41-45, M
It is kind of funny how the alt-right seems to want to say on one hand that the left is crazy for allowing too much, wanting to provide safe spaces and a voice for everyone AND then on the other hand saying we are "anti-freespeech".

I mean how exactly does that work?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Pherick It's 1984 double think, from people who love freedom and know that Antifa are the real fascists. 😉
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 😂😂
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Pherick not sure if you've heard of Tommy robinson? He is far right and has two issues under his belt, islamaphobia and of course, free speech. He was in court for reporting irregularities outside of a court and there was a demonstration. This created a counter demonstration. There was a lady there with a placard merely list Tommy robinson/Stephen yaxley-lennon (however he decides to market himself) criminal convictions.......his supporter, advocates of free speech, to umbrage to this, got aggressive (not violent), insulted her and then took her sign and smashed it up.........seems like someone doesn't like free speech.
This isn't surprising though because it has happened throughout history
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 seems like we may have a two way circle jerk going on soon mate lol
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@gol979 You're kinda cute but bros ain't my thing.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 haha I will settle for a metaphorical CJ lol
gol979 · 41-45, M
Anti-free-speech left......what an Orwellian phrase lol
gol979 · 41-45, M
@CheshireCatalyst lol you forget some other good tales we tell ourselves culturally.

Dog eat dog world

Look after number 1

Work is life

Buying shit makes you happy

Free market economy is "free"

No such thing as community

Ps I enjoyed the white ethnostate comment......I feel.a bit of plagiarism coming on 👍
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@gol979 hey man, free speech, plagiarise away!
gol979 · 41-45, M
@CheshireCatalyst cheers dude
That's not censorship. It's cyber murder. 😊

Irony used to be fun until the conservatives ran rampant with it.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Yeah well I won’t name names either, but if it’s the post I’m thinking of, that individual once used the K word in the context of discussing a person who was Jewish.

So he can cry us a river. 😂
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 I see you've done a post on Jordan peterson. Man, the debates I had with my mates about him. They thought he was the second coming but he is clearly a stupid clever man
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@gol979 Yeah some of my mates who should know better really take him seriously.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 yep......exactly the same here
SW-User
Isnt him blocking you against his views?🤷‍♀️
LyricalOne · F
Lol.... why am I not surprised. 😂
SW-User
That's disappointing. Despite not agreeing with any of his views, and finding a lot sometimes offensive, I always thought he was a bit more open minded than a lot here.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User I agree with every word.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Burnsie, I have not blocked anyone. Whoever is telling you that is not being truthful.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@jackjjackson This post isn't about you.
TexChik · F
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Very nice thanks. Yours? @gol979
TexChik · F
I have often thought of doing the same thing.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@TexChik You are a wonderful woman. Will you marry me? 😍

@Burnley123 The tension is killing me, do I need to get my suit cleaned?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User lol
Budwick · 70-79, M
Well, I guess you now have the example.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
I find that much of the whining about frozen peaches is thoroughly groundless, expecting 3rd party platform providers to put up with your shit.

I think it’s funny that the same people who think the left are for censorship became so outraged by people like Colin K taking a knee, which is also a First Amendment issue. They’re hypocrites.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
free speech isn't in conflict with personal attention
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Jackaloftheazuresand Well yeah. If you block me because you think I'm a blowhard then that is different to blocking me because I disagree with you. The post question complains about intolerance of views and echo Chambers etc. The irony is impossible to miss.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
If I run across free speech sientist I'll get back with ya
akindheart · 61-69, F
i bet i can guess who it is too.
I don't see the post so maybe they blocked me too (or I them)

I often wonder what free speech means to people
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@InOtterWords I dunno whether the post was in politics or community. I'm not gonna call out by name.
No I saw it now

*sighs

What about tolerance?
