I just read a post which was complaining about censorship by the 'anti-free-speech left'.

I politely questioned his argument and asked for specific examples so he blocked me. 馃し

Well , well , well ...... I had to do a little bit of detective work to find out who you were talking about and was gobsmacked to discover that he just blocked me too.

It was nothing to do with that question though (he must have blocked me before that) , but rather following a long exchange we had yesterday and today where the main bone of contention revolved around him defending Trump's ludicrous assertion ,when asked at his press conference last week about whether his coming out as a 'nationalist' was a dog-whistle to white supremacists , he replied that the question itself was racist.

I asked him to explain to me how a question about racists was racist and was met with what by now has become his normal barrage of barely coherent nonsense about leftists being intrinsically evil. His punchline was that I was parading 'villainy as virtue' , whatever that means.

This is a guy who I have known for almost ten years online and who , back in the days of ep , I considered a friend although I always knew he was a conservative and he that I was , for want of a better word , a leftist.

To witness such a transformation in someone since Trump was elected has been not only unnerving but , at times , frightening. A more polite , tolerant , intelligent and funny guy you could not wish to meet then and a more bellicose , angry , paranoid and violent person you will not meet now.

I've wondered about it a great deal since the election , not just him but how this maniac in the White House , supported by those screaming idiots on Fox News have irretrievably changed something in American society.

People would call us alarmist and hysterical when we warned about the danger Trump posed and we thought sometimes well maybe they're right. But to witness firsthand a descent into near madness by somebody you used to think was a stand up guy , then I know just how real all this has become.

@RodionRomanovitch People on here have told me he's said some horrible things and I believe them. It's sad because I used to get on with him and you could see some humanity there.

Last week he was praising Jair Bolsonaro and attacking the left for calling him a fascist. If fascism ever happens in America, it won't own that name but it will have convinced a large number of people that fascism is a made up term by SJW elitists.

I'm reading a book called alt America and its about the radicalisation of the American right. How conspiracy theories started by Alex Jones and fringe patriot groups became accepted as common sense by formally mainstream Conservatives. It does make me think of people on here, and sadly the gentleman in question.

@Burnley123 And I'm guessing that you probably know that Trump and Alex Jones still speak regularly on the phone.

@RodionRomanovitch I didn't but it doesn't surprise me.

Conspiracy theories are now an industry in America and crazy stuff keeps bring normalised. Half the Republican base agree with Trump when he posts George Soros conspiracy theories, the other half know its bollocks but vote Republican anyway and don't care about the consequences.
RodionRomanovitch56-60, M
@Burnley123 And that's the truly scary thing , the truth no longer matters.

I think you'd wanna read the Alt America book. The analysis is really on point and reminds me of so many people on here.

@RodionRomanovitch What especially worries me is the prevalent amateurish use of the Heisenberg principle to arrive at "truth is what you want it to be." If I have it right, photons and/or other subatomic particles appear to behave like waves under certain conditions, and like waves under others. I'm the first to admit I'm unschooled in this, but I have to say it more strongly proves there are still big holes in human understanding than the idea that humans fundamentally change reality when they examine it. I read that, when the first attempts to transfuse blood proved fatal, many were ready to conclude "God doesn't want us transfusing blood" before the different blood types were discovered. (get the vague analogy?)

@Burnley123 There's been a slew of books along those lines that I thought I might want to read but my better instincts tell me that , for the sake of my sanity , I really shouldn't.

@RodionRomanovitch I read a bit of politics and some of them are a mixed bag but this is on the money. It's on verso, if you or anyone else are interested.
I was also on that post (?) this morning and I warned the accuser of "Villainy as Virtue" guy that if he continued to harass me I would flag him, he couldn't resist so I did. Another user trying to defend him (?) both disappeared so I don't know if they blocked me but I am not allowed to view their profile pages. "Villainy: Wicked or criminal behavior."

@RodionRomanovitch He blocked me, more than a year ago, sometime after the 2016 elections. He was never able to back up his claim (except for reposting the debunked accusations about Hillary: child sex ring, international assassin, makes planes fall out of sky, etc).

When I called him on stuff, his only retort was the usual "leftist, blah blah, what about Hillary).

No loss, really. Good riddance. He is now sitting comfortably in his echo chamber.

PS: Yes, I was fooled for about a nanosecond, into thinking he's a rational person. Not really. He is a bona fide racist.
RodionRomanovitch56-60, M
@Northwest Like I said he was ok once , but since the election he just became unhinged. And that's another thing I can't work out about them ; up until last week they had the Presidency , the House , the Senate , the Supreme Court and yet still so angry. Why ?
NorthwestM
@RodionRomanovitch I know, it seems as the entire world is aware that Hillary is not on the ballot, Obama is not President, and Soros no longer runs the Government. The fact that they have nothing else to point to, means they're failing and there's nothing else to use as a cover up.

How's that "resolved" N. Korea situation going? How about the Infrastructure? the one thing Democrats would have jumped in head first for? Oh, the GOP did not mean to support that, beyond the elections. How's that big beautiful healthcare?

The SW trumpsters, who crowed about all this, did not mention any of it once, in the period leading up to the midterms, and they're certainly not going to talk about it now.

Let's keep the focus on the 2016 election.
