Should transgenders be allowed to use public washrooms of the gender they identify as?

Why or why not?
Explain your reasoning.
Reject · 26-30, M
I think no, simply because society wouldn't be comfortable with that. I'm someone who would put societal needs over individual ones.
Reject · 26-30, M
@SW-User He could, and he would get into trouble doing so. Fixing the current problems could have consequences I'm considering. Okay? I don't understand why people have to have such a problem with that. Fix the current problem. See what happens. I'm so sorry I gave thought to the future of something.
SW-User
@Reject Sigh. Allowing trans people to use whatever restrooms they want does not allow people to assault others or creepily watch someone. There are laws against that. I am sorry that you felt offended by my comments. Of course consider the future, but don't give more importance to it than you give to present concerns.
Reject · 26-30, M
@SW-User As much as I worry, if they passed the law it's not like I would be up in arms and trying to stop it. I don't have a problem with that. I just know that other people would, and that possibly could create problems. I can't say for sure, but I'll always hope for the best. I try to consider the best interest of everyone involved so I can see the arguments against it. Honestly, allowing that integration and seeing no issues arise would be ideal. I just doubt people and their ability to accept that. The importance I wish to give is that of consideration for everyone, not just personal motive. I don't wish to take a side, simply speak from my own and hear everyone out. I wish more of us had tolerance for perspectives they disagree with. So thank you for not trying to prove me wrong or getting on my case about it. I appreciate that.
TexChik · F
Nope . Some pervert will claim to identify as a woman so he can go pee next to my niece in a public restroom . Subsidizing mental illness helps no one .
TexChik · F
@CopperCicada yet you always stay on the left side of any issue , often quoting the party line
SW-User
@TexChik Sigh. You mean that they said people should be able to use whichever bathroom they feel comfortable with? Sorry, but I have been involved with this for several years, well before the Obama said or did anything. I dislike Caitlin Jenner. No one told me what to think. God, I spent a large part of Obama's presidency in China ignoring US politics.
@TexChik That "left side" is being projected from you.

I make my choices based on my own values, based on my own experience-- not what I am fed.

Take this trans-gender toilet issue.

The extent of my political engagement on this issue is rooted in freedom and liberty. I have precisely no interest in other people's sexual lives. That includes their genitals, sexual identities, and what they do with either.

I think it's a reasonable expectation for all American citizens to be able to defecate and urinate safely and with dignity in a place of public accommodation.

So maybe that does bring me to a conclusion that's similar to what you call "libtards". But they come to that conclusion based on populist politics leveraging identity politics. I come at it through ideas of liberty and freedom.
LucyRocks · 26-30, F
I don't want guys in the women's bathroom. They can take their dick elsewhere.
SW-User
@LucyRocks Exactly, it’s fucking weird.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Who cares. Lets worry about more important issues.
Honestly, I think half of the people using this issue never use public restrooms, and another half are trying to insert (or reinsert) good old puritanical values because they're afraid their kids may not share their own values and America won't be a god fearing fagot hating country like they want it to be.

And the third half (yeah I know) thinks this is silly. The problem is, the third half didnt see that it was outnumbered or that the people in the other two halves we're counting on them to not vote or think this was an isolated issue.

It's not. This stuff is fuel for Trump and his ilk, and he's counting on sane people to say all politicians lie and ignore what he's doing, when it's not "the same as Obama.".
Why would this beautiful woman use the men's restroom?

If a woman feels uncomfortable sharing a restroom with Laverne Cox, then get out and let Ms. Cox do her business. Besides, haven't most of us lived in a dorm? In college I shared bathrooms with girls, boys, trans women and trans men, all in varying states of drunkenness and sobriety and exam-based terror at all hours of the day and night. It threw me off for about two days, then I got over it. Women are in WAY more danger of being molested or raped walking down the street at night alone than we are peeing in a stall next to Ms Cox. In fact, I'm betting you're 99.95% safe with Ms. Cox. I simply ask her to be courteous and flush.
SW-User
Why is it that we never had this problem before? I would bet that most people have been in the restroom with a trans person before. They just didn't know because for some reason we have a stereotype that trans people are all guys in drag. That is called crossdressing... The only people in danger are the trans individuals. They are terrified of being assaulted, particularly in restrooms. The whole "guy wearing a dress" is bs. In the states (and Canada) that have allowed trans people to use whatever restrooms they want, they have NEVER had an issue. If we are so afraid of something, why are we allowing people who have been convicted of sexual assault into our bathrooms? This isn't about bathrooms any more than segregation was about bathrooms. This is about marginalizing part of society. Besides, will you have people at every bathroom checking people's genitals? Or will you just throw out women who look too masculine for your taste?

@SW-User bravo, finaly a sensible answer

@FreeSpirit1 Great analysis. I see many tee shirts with something of the same on them.
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
@FreeSpirit1 no i mean if its really a thing in the usa its ridiculous, no longer than 5 mins in there
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@whateverhappens oh, I think it's just a funny image, I have never seen a sign like that for real.
OK. This is Carla Lewis. People might recognize her. She is an advocate for trans-gendered people in the military. She is a veteran herself.

Visualize this person, and persons like her, going to the men's room and pissing in the piss trough at the football game.

So yes. Go piss where ever it minimizes drama.
WolfofDixie · 31-35, F
Hell no! You're either male or female. For anyone who is unsure of their gender, unzip your pants. Either you have a penis and are male, or you have a vagina and are female. If you can't figure it out, get your head examined. Use the restroom according to this standard.

@Celine quite honestly. i don't believe most cis women would at all be cool with pre-op F2M trans men hanging out in the locker room rest room. they can say otherwise, they'll have to show me...

@CopperCicada Hormones and a padded bra can do wonders
kutee · T
yes, in france public toilets are unisex, men stand and pee whilst women go to the other side and use the cubicle, no problem, its only uptight yanks who cant cope
SW-User
@eli1601 Israel uses unisex bathrooms...
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@SW-User France ruined it for everyone
SW-User
@eli1601 lol
AlphaPuppy · 26-30, M
There's nothing to see in there anyway, apart from at the urinals.. But does that mean gay guys be excluded from male bathrooms?
AlphaPuppy · 26-30, M
@eli1601 that wasn't the question
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@AlphaPuppy Can't think outside the box?
AlphaPuppy · 26-30, M
@eli1601 we don't really have locker rooms where you get naked in front of strangers here.. I think that its a bizarre thing to do full stop, I like to change in private
SW-User
People worry about hurting transgenders. I think about what women think. I'm a crossdresser and I think women would probably be very uncomfortable with it. They say it's not fair to transgender people. Well it's not fair to women either.
Well I guess it’s strange to go in either toilet if a man is dressed as a woman at the time. This sounds odd I know but If he is just dressed in pink in a ladies cardigan then I would say he has to use the men’s since he is only particially dressed and he is still identical as a man. On the other hand some transgenders are very feminine and very good at what they do dressed as a woman so then I think they should be allowed to use the ladies facilities especially since the ladies are all individual toilets and showers etc.
NaturalBeautyQueen · 41-45, F
They used them before anybody said anything about it. And there wasn’t an issue then. I don’t see why not.
It's easy. Unisex bathrooms. Half the world does it. And it's not just a gender politics issue. It's a pain in the ass to meet zoning requirements and social expectations to have M and F restrooms. Just put a toilet in a room with a sink and call it done. Move on with life.
@Celine well, i posed one toilet/one room. i wasn't even grasping as far as multiple stalls/one room.

@CopperCicada I agree, but if we move on from this, and don't spend our time arguing religious and divisive social issues, we might focus on things like incompetence, collusion with foreign powers, and sabotaging government so that it can be reshaped to make America "great again."

Yes, the Nazi analogy is not perfect, but it is the last time anyone has done this on such a large scale.

Politics is a game, but once you throw away the rules, there's no way but brute force or human decency to stop the players' disagreements from turning into chaos or even violence.

Is Trump counting on riots as a way for him to seize control? I doubt it, but I think Bannon and Putin may be, and Trump is happy as a clam as long as people praise him or he can get revenge if they don't.
Sure. Why not? There are just there to pee.

Women having been doing this for many decades at concerts and sporting events. We dress down to appear more of a tomboy that what we may be just to fit in more in male restrooms- to avoid the lines.

If she is dressed the part of woman and she is serious about being a woman i see no issue.

I was at 5 guys a few months back and has to use the women's room. They are single use bathrooms, one each sex. About the time I get it a girl comes out of it -and another girl comes of of the men's room. They walk away together chatting.

I just do not see the issue. But I see and understand the fear and phobias associated with this issue. And religious indoctrination.

the answer is , individual toilets , unisex so any sex can use them but have doors thta lock, for each room, like in the uk
SW-User
@kutee agreed
kutee · T
@SW-User as male and female toilets is a waste, sometime oneis empty the other has aline, so make them all unisex
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
A person is a person. They do not chose how they come into this world. As long as we are all respectful of each other in the restroom then I do.not see a problem with it. Just my two cents
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
I do not see how pandering to a delusion is helpful to the person. They need to be counciled to accept their real selves instead of pretending they are of the other sex.
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
@Celine What word should I use for acting as if something that is obviously and demonstrably true was something other than what it is?

@Celine Verifiable facts are not prejudices. You really are hopeless, aren't you? Parroting what the "cool" people have told you without even briefly considering logic. No wonder our country is such a mess, people like you are allowed to vote.
OK. This is Ben Melzer. People might recognize him. He was the first trans male on the cover of Men's Health.

Visualize this person, and persons like him, going into the women's room to take a piss.

So yes. Go piss where ever it minimizes drama.

@Celine I dunno. I think this trans-guy is "passing" as a guy. LOL.

The issue of "passing" is what actually bothers me.

This becomes less an issue of trans-gendered people using restrooms and more a policing of who is passable and not. And now you're going to have people calling out "masculine" women, "feminine" men, intersexed people. General shenanigans.

@CopperCicada agreed. They have already had issues with that. Shall we pay people to inspect genitals before we allow people to pee?
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
I really don't care, everyone should be given the opportunity to smell my farts.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@JarJarBoom Ewww. Careful some people may take you up on that lol.
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
hmm cant say, they dont have that in my country, just go in whichever... we wouldnt care... just there too pee
okaybut · 56-60, M
Yes. There is a want by society (the elite anyway) to allow the freedom to select your gender. However, regardless it would not be enforceable which bathroom they go into (would be hard to tell). So yes, allow them the choice. I do not agree with a "third" bathroom for those who do not know what they are. That is an expense to society that punishes the collective far too much for individual wants.
kutee · T
its funny, why do people care, really, its just pissing
hlpflwthat · M
They have been forever. How would anyone know if they are or aren't? And unless you've got some kinda public restroom fetish, we all do 95% of our business in unisex bathrooms anyway.
