Should transgenders be allowed to use public washrooms of the gender they identify as?

Why or why not?
Explain your reasoning.

I think no, simply because society wouldn't be comfortable with that. I'm someone who would put societal needs over individual ones.

@Celine That's different. Black or white isn't a choice. Transgenders are. That means it's a system that's easy to take advantage of.

@Celine Societal norms aren't set in stone, but certain ones exist for good reason. It IS a choice. People aren't born transgendered. They decide to become one later because it appeals to what they want.

@Celine I'm sure some people would have said that about segregation too. That doesn't change my point that it's a choice and that's the difference between these two that matters.

@Celine I'm saying it's a choice because it simply is one. You can disagree if you like, but that's what I believe. I'm sure most people would agree that becoming a transgendered is in fact, a choice.

@Celine No, I don't believe that being gay is a choice. I'm not discussing feelings. I'm discussing the act of labeling yourself as something and in some cases, altering your body.

@Celine As I said, I wasn't discussing feelings. Feelings aren't a choice, but I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about becoming a transgendered.

@Celine No, I didn't make a mistake. Feeling like a transgender and officially declaring yourself as one are two different things.

@Celine The choice is in whether you declare yourself as one or not which matters because as I said earlier, that's easy to take advantage of.

@Celine You can never entirely stop perversion in public, but you can take measures to lessen the extent of it. Gender laws on bathrooms are one of those measures. It's either keep people safer, or grant a minority one trivial wish that puts the greater whole at more risk. I'd rather protect more people.

@Celine It's trivial because I'm pretty sure they won't all die if they aren't allowed into the restroom of their choice. Statistics for other places don't cover all situations present in yours. So there goes that argument.

@Reject Many trans people go through "top" surgery or through no surgery but that doesn't make them not transgender.

@Celine Trivial is subjective. I don't think wanting to use is a specific restroom in public is the most important thing in the world. It's not invalid because you view it that way. Don't look at another place and assume it would be the same as yours... Look, it doesn't matter. I've explained my side and you can disagree. That's just fine. There is no use in continuing to talk about this because we just see it differently. That's okay. Not everyone has to be the same as you and that doesn't make them wrong. All I did was give my perspective. You gave yours and we can be on our way. I'm going to leave it because you weren't looking for a discussion, you were looking to prove me wrong. Nothing constructive comes from that approach for me, just a use of time that doesn't interest me. So you have a nice day. :)

@Reject Really?????? Guess what? My 17 year old son is terrified of going to the bathroom in public. He is afraid for his physical safety. He refuses to drink all day because he might have to go to the bathroom at school. This has causes a lot of health problems, including making his migraines unbearable. We go on trips and for some reason, after a few hours of traveling, he has to pee. He has to go with someone to watch out for him and protect him. I get that it doesn't affect you, but it affects other people every single day.
