He's VERY pretty. Of course, there was a problem when starlings were introduced here from Europe, so they have a bad rep. I don't think I've ever seen one. We have a lot of grackles here, instead.

@4meAndyou We seem to have millions of grackles here too. What caused the increase was people using Bradford pear trees for landscaping. Those birds nest in either pear trees or Bradford pear trees, and they eat the little undeveloped pears and crap the seeds out and cause the trees to grow in wild areas...now we have problems with grackles and wild pear trees popping up every where. And the grackles are also causing a cedar tree fungus that can kill the tree to be spread to the Bradford pear trees. My tree has had that fungus and it didn’t grow for nearly three years, didn’t have to trim it until a couple months ago because it was fighting the disease, spots on the leaves.

Ours aren't colourful.

@cherokeepatti Starlings are known to cause histoplasmosis. This is a fungal disease that grows in their nesting areas. It caused my aunt to go blind.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Funtoy4u I know, I’ve had it and it left scars inside of my eyes. It’s the fungus spores from their nests that cause it. But it can also be in chicken pens, etc. Probably pigeon nests too. I had to get an injection in my eye because one of the scars started bleeding.
Funtoy4u · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Yes, I grew up in the country in central Illinois. The starlings there were the European starling. They were uglier than the one in the picture. We had a lot roosting in the eves of the barns. After my aunt went blind (she lived about 1 mile from us), we cleared out all of their nests.

That is a pretty one.

@Degbeme there is a video on You Tube of a woman feeding baby emerald starlings
