I Have A Concern

Something is living under and in the walls of my house. Its bigger than a mouse by far. I guess it could be a large rat but where would a rat come from? They are developing a large plot of land nearby. It was a wetland area with dry areas in it too. Maybe something decided to move in after losing its home but what is it and how to get rid of it?

What's it sound like? Scratching? Squeaking? Thumping? Does it sound big? What time of day do you hear it? What part of the country are you in?

@MissSimpleMind im in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I never hear squeaking. I hear a lot of strong scratching and chewing. Shuffling around and clawing. Its torn a large amount of our insulation underneath the house. I cant find an exit/entry it might use to go outside and i have no idea what its food source might be if it doesnt leave.

I'd be leaning towards rats or even maybe a squirrel? Do you see any droppings anywhere? Both can do plenty of damage and chew through insulation...

We once had a darn weasel in the house. That was fun...

@MissSimpleMind no droppings i can find. Maybe I should be looking up high for a possible entry. Ive only been looking around the foundation.

@morrgin Yeah, squirrel, raccoon, possum, and whatever else you might have in that area can use a high entry. Any trees near or touching the house?
morrgin · F
@GerOttman yes there is 1 tree that is against the house
morrgin · F
@MissSimpleMind it was a rat.

I hope it's a dead rat now!
