Well, I hope your relationship with your daughter doesn't change. She still needs you even though she is sexually active. Lots of fathers turn away from their daughters at this stage in life - which is really unfortunate. She is still your little girl.

it's funny how time is weirdly malleable like that. to you it's been no time at all, to her, it's been all her life (just the being 17 thing, nothing re: sexually active or not)

Get her to the gyno for birth control and give her condoms for sexually transmitted diseases.

This is one of those scenarios I would consider a “ growing pain”. As she grows older & becomes more independent in her thinking, choices etc it can feel so difficult as a loving parent to let go. Of course she’s only 17 so you’ve got some time before she’s likely to “ leave the nest”. Be patient with yourself & those feelings. First thing is first it’s important to be sure she’s healthy & safe so have her mom take her to the gynecologist office. Then really I’d acknowledge the courage it took your daughter to talk about such a personal subject with you both. That wasn’t easy but it should be appreciated that you were trusted. I’m sure if you guys did a good job with her she is smart & you’ll all be okay as this next page of her life & y’all’s relationship with her turns.
