"I'm just see through faded, super jaded, out of my mind."

Heaven Beside You is a song by Alice in Chains. When I found EP all those years ago I identified with this song in a big way laying next to my husband in bed at night. I would lay there for hours, struggling with trying to find another way, perhaps a different way, something I hadn't thought of, hadn't tried, hadn't begged for. Something, anything, that would fix this mess of a marriage. I would lay there, and quietly cry out of frustration and hurt and helplessness.

I have been divorced now for many years, but I will always love this song. It still speaks to me, but now more from a place of strength than of weakness.

This song haunts me as I have lived it. This song is about the personal battle that rages on inside our heads. Heaven beside you - this is what your partner and friends may think of your well being. Hell within - is what you are feeling personally. Sorry about what happened in your life....

@masterofyou Yes. For both me and my ex. He struggled a lot with himself, and I was miserable trying to accept someone who couldn't even accept himself.

@HeavenBesideYou It can be very disheartening to care for someone who does not care for himself . After a while, you can start to feel that your efforts are wasted; you spend time and energy trying to boost your partner up, and he or she tries just as hard to tear himself down again. I bet you still love him and it still haunts you...

@masterofyou Real love is eternal, but he was controlling and a narcissist, and honestly it took a lot for me to get out of that relationship. So while you are right that it may still haunt me from time to time, it's nothing I would ever go back to.
