I Am Insecure Around Rich People

Logically I understand that they're human just like me. But in this country, money = privilege and the illusion of being "better" than everyone else.

I fall under that spell sometimes, feeling inferior to people who have more money than me. 😞

its all a lie. people with money arent better. i know plenty of stupid/mean/annoying rich people (not neccessarily all those qualities in one person).
that being said, accumulating money from little is hard and requires careful planning and good judgement for most people who end up succeeding

@Zaxel On a side note, I read somewhere that one common trait among the super rich (like billionaires) is that they are all psychopaths [EDIT: rather *SOCIOPATHS*] to an extent... The rationale is that to make the decisions necesary to amass such amounts of money people need to be ruthless and merciless... An example, Amazon's Jeff Bezos... It's no secret that the people who work in Amazon's warehouses are harshly exploited, yet that doesn't seem to bother Bezos one bit...

@drymer i cant comment on their mental states but i think i did see a study about CEOs having sociopathic tendencies that appeared more often than in a general population (psychopaths are different from sociopaths). but you dont need to be a stone cold killer to do well, there are plenty of good moral hardworking people who became well off through their efforts.

@Zaxel You are right, it was probably "sociopath" that I read... Basically someone that doesn't really empathize with other people's suffering etc.

And yes I like to believe that there are honest, hardworking rich people out there... It gives me hope.

I'm the other way around, I don't know why... Among rich people I feel at ease, almost superior, even as I've never been rich (high middle class at most, when I was a kid)... Maybe I'm just aware they're not better than me in anyway. Not necessarily worse, but rich people are not definitely smarter or more cultured than the average person... If anything, I look down of them for their belief that their wealthier status is a validation of their "betterness"....
