I tried rewatching "Attack of the Clones." It is such a mix of good and bad.

Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid are fantastic in the roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sheev Palpatine, respectively. But a lot of the dialogue is super corny and lame, and some of the Anakin/Padme scenes are so cringy-inducing and awkward that they're nigh impossible to watch. And honestly, Natalie Portman just sucks.

I'm comfortable saying Clones is the worst Star Wars movie, and most of them aren't that great.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@CountScrofula if you shit on Empire, I will disown you
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@basilfawlty89 Nobody hates Empire, it's objectively the best movie by a long shot.

@BlueMetalChick I haven't actually seen Solo but intend to. Here's my basic rundown of the movies:

OT: IV is a bad B movie that comes across as a great action movie. That's a compliment. It's pure movie candy. Empire is brilliant. Mixed opinions on Jedi.

Prequels: Incompetent movies from the world's most obvious case of Dunning-Kruger. They're all atrociously bad.

Sequels: 7 is a fun action movie if creatively bankrupt.

8 is ... weird. It's great and awful at the same time and clearly obsessed with the meta-narrative of Star Wars fandom and their expectations. It didn't leave me excited for more Star Wars.

@CountScrofula I'm mostly in agreement although I liked Return of the Jedi a lot. The only big detraction were the Ewoks, but I can get past them pretty easily since their role is relatively minor. The rest of the film is phenomenal.

I'm more forgiving of the prequels than you are. Are they good? Well, for the most part, no. The acting was abysmal, with the exceptions of McGregor and McDiarmid, the two Scotsmen. Even Samuel Jackson, who is possibly my favorite actor in the world, was pretty lackluster in the role of Mace Windu. And the set pieces were terrible as well, unconvincing and cheesy. But I had the advantage of reading the prequel series in comic form, which was much, much more enjoyable. So I went into the prequels with knowledge of what was going to happen, and a lenience to the story line, which was actually pretty enjoyable. Hayden Christensen was a mistake, and Natalie Portman has always been a loser. Those two were what really, really fucked up the prequels. And of course Jake Lloyd as child Anakin. I hate to beat up on a little kid actor but god that character was awful.

Agreed on Episodes VII and VIII.

What'd you think of Rogue One?

I completely agree on all points, although it's my favourite of the first three. It has an "Empire" feeling about it that I could never put my finger on.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@uniglow I definitely enjoyed the scenes on Coruscant.
uniglow · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick That's largely the parts I was thinking about.
Accurate review. Especially padme/anikin
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I always thought it felt rushed
CrustyDDingus · 36-40, M
You must be one die hard fan of Star wars if you can find any good in that movie 🤔
CrustyDDingus · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick I admit, I was pretty tired of Star wars at that point. I grew up when that marketing machine was just starting to churn out games and special editions for the original trilogy. I forget you weren't exposed to all that nonsense growing up, so you're likely not as jaded as I am.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@CrustyDDingus Well there's that, and also I hit the series from Episode I to start with after reading the prequel story line as comics.

I close my eyes and wish the prequels would just go away
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Hanging2 I enjoy the continuity. Although I had the advantage of reading the prequels as comics before I saw the movies.
Hanging2 · 51-55, M
@BlueMetalChick The character arc for Anakin was poorly developed. It could have been more Interesting if they left the whole love story thing alone. Lucas is not good at directing meaningful love scenes
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Hanging2 Agreed, and there were so many things wrong with it. Anakin is like 14 years younger than Padme so that's already uncomfortable to begin with. Hayden Christianssen was ungainly in the role of Anakin. He had the physical appearance for it but his dialogue was godawful. And the movie focused way too much on Anakin x Padme. Like, nobody was invested in that romance. It didn't need that much screen time.

Is that the animated one ?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@OfflineFriend No, that's the Clone Wars cartoon show.
OfflineFriend · 22-25
@BlueMetalChick oh ok, that show was good though
