Fun fact

"Laser Guns" especially beam lasers, would require an immense amount of power to generate a beam even for the shortest amount of time.

So...that being said...are handheld laser guns really that cool? A shot to the wrong place could blow you up...just saying.

Also a fun fact: Ablation means that firing a laser for any more than a millisecond or two is nearly a total waste of energy as the particulate cloud created by the ablated matter will obscure the target and disperse the energy.

Still badass though, because real military grade lasers wouldn't just cut into organic targets. They'd cause blood-steam explosions.

@UndeadPrivateer If only they were that awesome in Fallout lol

One shot would just annihilate them from the inside out xD
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 I don't know, turning people into piles of ash is pretty badass. Kinda like they switched the roles of plasma and lasers. Plasma should be turning things into ashes and lasers should be turning things into piles of goo. Though laser-made goo should be a pile of guts and splintered bone and not glowing green stuff.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@UndeadPrivateer Yeah but it just kinda "cooks them" alive...like a Microwave of death.

But yh...lasers should just have a permanent "Bloody Mess" perk attached to them xD

And then we have lightsabers... one of those failing would make Chernobyl look like a pimple popping
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 Oh true... I just mean the amount of energy stored in those little hilts must be insane. And when people go getting theirs cut in half it seems like it would be an extinction level event on that planet, no?
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 Cooler, maybe, but also suicidal. Haha. They'd basically be handheld suicide grenades. Or at least a handheld hand-remover.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@UndeadPrivateer People in a Star Wars movie expect to lose a hand lol haven't you been paying attention? xD
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
I love laser, but yeah. The micro energy sources you'd need to realistically power laser small arms would be such a world changing technology.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 Yeah, but so many times we've invented things we thought would fix all our problems, then we make new problems. XD
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Xuan12 Well if the tech is widely available to the point that we just stop using bullets...there wouldn't be many problems.

Apart from the whole exploding thing.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 Because people are shooting each other with their laser guns? XD

It's like energy from hydrogen fusion. If we could get it to work, we'd have a near infinite source of clean energy. It could literally be the engine that drives the end of poverty with ease...IF we let it. But that's not what we tend to do.

I love it when laser guns have recoil Ü

@Fangirlsarah1996 I'm so sad that ME:A is such a bad game :(
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@SW-User It's a good game, just not a good Mass Effect game.
SW-User
@Fangirlsarah1996 It has good ground gameplay. Everything else is flawed. 1 outta 3 makes a bad game for me 😣
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
actually it's not in the shortest amount of time. lasers take time to do some effect. even high power military ones require at least several seconds.
and there's no such thing as a "laser gun" there isn't any other kind of laser weapon that is not a laser beam. because lasers are exactly that, a beam of light.
also there's an UN convention banning blinding laser weapons.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@unknownpoetx If you use the logic presented by the universes in question then yes, there is such a thing as a "laser gun"

It's called taking it in context.

What you are doing is called taking it out of context.
SW-User
@Fangirlsarah1996 Which, is his specialty.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@SW-User I've noticed.
SW-User
doesn't that apply to any weapon? in theory at least.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@SW-User If you shot a gun in the wrong place, the worst it could do would be a misfire...as well as the destruction of the weapon.

Damaging a laser rifle would be akin to a nuclear reactor melting down, except sped up...in your hands.
SW-User
@Fangirlsarah1996 with the right sort of shot with the right ammo, a shot to a conventional firearm could result in the magazine of ammo going up. which was about the worst thing that could happen in old naval warfare days with blackpowder and cannon.
I think if you did some really hard math on it, you'd find that a weapon's potential for and the damage it can inflict on an operator are probably some inverse square of its destructive capability and complexity. e.g. a 1911 pistol is both difficult to make dangerous to the user and not super destructive if you do, a minigun quite a bit more on both fronts and flamethrower operators would rather not be living, anyway.
SW-User
Yes, because... Lasers.
