Fun fact

"Laser Guns" especially beam lasers, would require an immense amount of power to generate a beam even for the shortest amount of time.

So...that being said...are handheld laser guns really that cool? A shot to the wrong place could blow you up...just saying.

doesn't that apply to any weapon? in theory at least.

@SW-User If you shot a gun in the wrong place, the worst it could do would be a misfire...as well as the destruction of the weapon.

Damaging a laser rifle would be akin to a nuclear reactor melting down, except sped up...in your hands.

@Fangirlsarah1996 with the right sort of shot with the right ammo, a shot to a conventional firearm could result in the magazine of ammo going up. which was about the worst thing that could happen in old naval warfare days with blackpowder and cannon.
I think if you did some really hard math on it, you'd find that a weapon's potential for and the damage it can inflict on an operator are probably some inverse square of its destructive capability and complexity. e.g. a 1911 pistol is both difficult to make dangerous to the user and not super destructive if you do, a minigun quite a bit more on both fronts and flamethrower operators would rather not be living, anyway.
