Wonder if it had underground tunnels so they could transport patients without others seeing the horrors of what the doctors had done to them.

They did have underground tunnels at the one near where I live.

@JohnnySpot They didn't want what they were doing out in the open so patients were moved through the tunnels. They did horrific things to patients.
@JohnnySpot They had underground tunnels in the abandoned facility where I grew up. Me and a bunch of friends explored them. It was an insanely stupid thing to do. We would on occasion encounter patients that were released on their own recognizance down there. We had one come running towards us in dark screaming his head off. We shot bottle rockets in his direction and ran back. Fortunately we had a master key that locked the fire door behind us. The movie “Joker” has some basis in reality for that time in New York state when funding for mental health services was drastically reduced. 10’s of thousands of patients were released on the streets to become homeless. But mistreatment of the elderly or infirm is nothing new for the Cuomos.

The one by me was called "Eloise" a very large facility, abandon for decades, lawless, police did not patrol.
