I Am Frustrated

Here I thought me and my family would finally move like my mom has always talked about. And then my dad said today that he doesn't want to move because he doesn't want to leave the temple that he's a member of. I'm scared that I'm going to be stuck here forever since I cannot afford to live on my own. It just infuriates that my dad isn't thinking of me. He knows that in the field I'm in that there are no job opportunities for me where we live but he wants to stay where he is.

It is time for you and your dad to have 'the talk" about what being an adult entails. Perhaps he fears for your safety, etc. As a father, I can tell you it is difficult to see your kids "leave the nest." But at some point it just has to happen. I hope you can find a way to afford to live on your own. many young people starting out, don't live in the style they would want to, have to live with roomates, etc. In the long run, though, that will be so much better for you and your family. Hopefully, you will not be so far away, that your dad won't get to see you much.

What is your field and where do you live that this is so difficult a problem?

@samueltyler2: entertainment and I live in the suburbs.

Not sure what you mean either by entertainment or suburbs. Does he not respect your role in entertainment? Why not look for roommates in the city and move from the suburbs.

where do you live and where are you hoping to move to? If there are job opportunities elsewhere then apply for them anyway, and when you get the job then you can move.

Awww... That sucks. You should apply in another town, and see how it goes. Maybe your mom can come visit you in another city.... Don't give up on your dreams!
