I Hate Traitors

To all those traitors in the uk who cannot respect the rule of democracy and wish to undermine it with a second referendum ,You should all be ashamed of your selves the uk was built on democracy where the will of the many out weighed the will of the few .We had a referendum and we voted to leave .That should be respected and acted upon .If you do not wish to live outside of Europe then go and live in Europe .DO NOT try to undermine our democracy just because it doesn't suit you .
"the uk was built on democracy where the will of the many out weighed the will of the few "
Actually no, that's historically inaccurate.

@Rhodesianman It forced Zimbabwe to have democracy. Sometimes democracy means people make crazy decisions. Like Brexit.
Rhodesianman56-60, M
@Burnley123 Zimbabwe does NOT have democracy
Burnley12341-45, M
@Rhodesianman I know. Neither did Rhodesia.
Burnley12341-45, M
Rhodesia, now that was a great democracy. 馃ぃ

@Rhodesianman Smith did make compromises because he had to under pressure from the British and his own population. That doesn't mean he believed in democracy or that his regime wasn't a racist one.

@Burnley123 I beg to differ I knew the man I also knew muzerewas son I went to school with him .You shouldn't listen to people who don't have the facts

@Rhodesianman If everyone listened to facts imo there would be no Brexit.

Breaking my SW virginity here before I even finished a 'I'm a new member...' post, but I couldn't resist...

First of all I don't want to slip into ad hominemism already, but naming yourself after a country which in its final days can hardly be said to be representative of the "will of the many", is kind of instructive...

Secondly, in a democracy people are entitled to change their minds and express that change to the people they choose to represent them in a national parliament.

We did have a referendum, which was at best ill-advised, at worst conducted corruptly (on both sides). We live in a Parliamentary, representative democracy: Parliament is not put there to enact 'the will of the people', but to (to paraphrase Burke), offer collectively its best judgement in what is in both the local and national interest.

It isn't 2016 any more. Maybe those interests would involve re-evaluating our previous choices.

Maybe the leave side shouldn't have lied through their fucking teeth and deliberately mislead the population.

Anyone with accurate information could have seen a deal with the EU was impossible and a no-deal exit would be catastrophic and permanently fuck up Ireland.

@CountScrofula ...and the UK...
CountScrofula41-45, M
@DaySpider No kidding. If I was British I'd just be in the fetal position right now.

The biggest problem with Brexit and why it can't pass Parliament is because 'the will of the people' is ambiguous.

We voted to leave the EU. Okay, on what terms and under what conditions?

There are three types of Brexit on offer: May's deal, the Norway option or a no deal Brexit. None has majority support in parliament or with the British public. A no deal Brexit was not on the ballot paper and would be a catastrophe.

I'm a remainer but I accept the result which is why I am prepared to accept the Norway option. Beyond that, you don't have a mandate.

@Rhodesianman I would support a second ref of there was a significant shift in public opinion but a small shift doesn't justify that.
@Rhodesianman so, if people did change their minds, why wouldn't a second referendum be as valid as the first, if not more so?
Rhodesianman56-60, M
@EarthlingWise Maybe because the first referendum has not been carried out therefore a second referendum would make a mockery of democracy .

Couldn鈥檛 agree more
