"Have you guys noticed straight people appearing in a lot shows..."

I know what you mean but the sentence wasn't the best :-P by the way LGBT is just normality as well as non LGBT so I think showing it it's a positive thing in 99% of cases.

Actually I think it's not enough anymore.
Some TV show has maybe one LGBT person or couple in their main/supporting characters, real thing is not enough to me, when LGBT is not around I'm a bit "yeah, are you missing something?".
It's like to watch a show that talks about people in a certain area and not showing black people or Asian or whatever...
Showing them is not putting a minorance (really when we talk about Asians, the concept of minorance is extremely silly since they are more than THE HALF of the human population on this planet..) is just showing REALITY, real world. Millions and millions of people in most cases, so showing them should be COMPLETELY NORMAL.

I think it's good, homosexual people do exist and should be represented. As Bluemetalchick above said it's wrong if it feels forced (but I suppose that observation is subjective to the person with the opinion that it's forced). The one thing that bothers me is the use of over the top extreme camp stereotypes. Sure there are gay people who are overtly camp but I often wonder why that stereotype is being used, probably to bring the gay character to the attention of viewers who wouldn't understand or believe a character is gay unless it's overtly stereotypical or wouldn't feel comfortable with a gay character unless they are overtly camp therefore pandering to and reinforcing the prejudices of the ignorant who believe all gay men are like that.

Don't like it. If it is just part of the show because it is just part of the plot that a character or characters are LGBT then that is ok. But when it is obviously stuck in there having nothing to do with the plot and is there to prove that writers and producers are not discriminating then it is art to illustrate a point rather than art for arts sake. In short if you are just doing it to make a social point you can take your social justice elsewhere.

@Johnson212 thing is you randomly meet people in real life who are LGBT etc. So why shouldn't there be random characters in TV shows and films who just happen to be gay or whatever, extraneous to their character's plot or the storyline?
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@Nomoretomorrow Random characters are OK but it has become like a check box that has to be ticked. If you don't have a gay character in your sitcom or movie you better go find one.
Nomoretomorrow · 46-50, M
But surely that's what a random gay character is, thereby reflecting real life.

It's enjoyable if it doesn't feel forced. The same goes for racial diversity. Sometimes they try to make it super obvious that the characters are of different races or sexual orientation and it just comes off as feeling pushy and unnatural.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Atlantis That too. Although I'm biased being an asexual. There's really only been one sex scene in a movie I ever truly enjoyed, and that's the one from "A Clockwork Orange" in which Alex and the two girls he met at the record store have a rabid threesome in fast-motion set to the soundtrack of Gioachino Rossini's "William Tell Overture".
Echambers101 · 26-30, M
@BlueMetalChick no idea what that is but if you say so
trackboy · 22-25, M
@BlueMetalChick was that ruby's bucket of blood made in 2001 with white singer billy Dupree starting kevin Anderson as billy, or bloody mama a bucket of blood made in 1959 that was a one season tv series?? 🎃

It's only natural the more alternative lifestyles are acceptable the more those characters will be included in the dramas or comedies

@AMERICA1ST the word of God is up for debate, ask any atheist. There are lots of debates about whether a god exists, which god is the real one (if any) and, due to the thoroughly ambiguous and self contradictory nature of the Bible, what "god" actually meant

Positive discrimination of any minority fails miserably at ever attempt, it causes resentment where there was none. People will never learn. Sexual and racial equality will take generations to be absorbed as a social norm. Social conditioning trends are not switches you can flick on and off.

@AMERICA1ST finally someone who sees it like me
jc324 · 26-30, M
My biggest problem with this is more times than not all you see of the LGBT community are bad stereotypes.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@jc324 in Riverdale the gay boy is a varsity wrestler and another one is a footfall player. very against stereotype. 🎄

It tends to appear more in movies, but either way there is no such word as "alot".
