Did you reconsider buying kids in your family an iPad after learning Steve Jobs forbade his kids from using them?

midnightsun · 26-30, M
I don't buy my kids an iPad or anything . Internet is designed to be addictive by giving you little dopamine boosts. Might as well hook them up with real drugs

If I have kids, in future I mean
@midnightsun True, either that, or the kids should be truly earning electronics, also, paying their own cell phone bill.

I think it's absurd the way parents kowtow to the kids phone "needs" these days. I was raised by wealthy parents but it was never assumed things would be bought for me. (maybe I'm just old and out of touch) 😜

@midnightsun The internet itself is not designed that way, but some sites (in particular social media) are.

No ,, I didn't buy into the FUBU garbage either
or Tommy Hilfiger either
Everyone knows when you say "You can't buy that because "
People will ,,just "Because "

I do enjoy Apple products, but their ever rising price point has been indefensible for some time, particularly regarding their cell phones.@rckt148

@AnonymouslyYours Especially after the batteries blowing up thing ,,but people see them as a status symbol
I no longer use cell phones
When my ex used my cell to track me and cheat on me ,,damn that
I am not paying $180,00 a month for that
I have a land line ,,,leave a message ,,or catch me here or on Face Book ,,,People that I love know who to reach me

there's a very good reason he forbade his kids from using them.
MethDozer · M
@katielass It mostly involves social media use though. Not tech itself

@MethDozer yes, that's what I hear. My hubby and I were in a Mexican restaurant not long ago, Friday evening. We were in a booth and a family of 4 were seated just across from us. Parents and one teen daughter and a younger son. Apparently the girl was on her phone and the father told her to put it away. She didn't. He got up and snatched it from her hands. She got up and ran out. I was proud of the parents for staying, ordering and eating. That probably happens in homes all over the country every day. Thank god I didn't have kids, my blood pressure would be sky high. lol

@katielass I know of a family who gives their 7 year old iPhones. Then he stole a credit card to order shit on Amazon. IDC what anyone says. Smashed phone, whoop that kids fanny for that.
No, I probably wouldn’t have taken any parenting cues from Steve Jobs.
Just saying. 😒

@bijouxbroussard For real. I heard he wasn't winning any father of the year awards.

If you go with the Steve Jobs method, they should be in your garage building their own
MethDozer · M
@meJess Steve Jobs didn't really build things
I don't think most parents realize how serious the carcinogens in cell phones/Ipads really is.
MethDozer · M
I wouldn't buy my kids tablets or phones before 16
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@MethDozer They go from 745 am to 245 pm. Used to be if they missed snow days they went on Saturday and Sunday. They teach them coding and other things as well beginning in 3rd grade so of course they are all into that. I keep wondering if they will eventually make those jobs obsolete because the industry will be saturated. We may have gone to college but they are learning the same things in high school
MethDozer · M
@Fungirlmmm Probably. I also wonder how these kids will fare not having basic skills as adults or experience on the physical world. I'd hate to see our youth turn out like China's.

@MethDozer true
