I have done some pretty weird shifts in my life.

The most weird was three days on for 8 hours, one day on call for 24 hours and four days off.

Yes, a eight day week. 🙃

Actually loved it. Yet you got to be ready within a one hour notice on the fourth on call day. And it could last the full 24 hours. Which was rare though. Usually 8 hours if you get called at all.

The hardest schedule had to be 12 hour days and no days off for three months straight. Benefit? A full months paid vacation.

@DeWayfarer wow what jobs are those? Sounds like trades. Like oil rig or camp work.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@GuyWithOpinions the first security guarding nukes.

The last was with Waste management Inc. They couldn't get anyone to do the job in a remote area.

I work 24/7 - no time off.

If I don't care, there's nobody else to ensure that the person I look after is coping with his needs.

If I do care, there's nobody else to ensure that I have a safe working environment and I'm not abused in any way.

Haven't seen a social worker for years at this point.

@HootyTheNightOwl and I don’t mean to pry but can you elaborate if you’re comfortable doing so
I work 9 hrs 4 days a week and 8.5 hours on Thursday.
10 hours in four days would suit me , though I'd be missing 4.5 hours of work so I guess 2 days of 12 hours and 2 of ten hours would be better.
Of course , if I could retire early would be better

I did a 10/4 in retail for several years. Unfortunately, the job didn't even pretend to pay a livable wage so I worked a lot more than that. Sometimes I got there at 8:30 in the morning and worked until 11:00 at night and I quite often worked 7 days a week.

i work 8 hours 5 days a week, but would love to switch to a job that i could work 12 hr shifts 3 days a week. as long as the job isn’t toooo physically demanding i think it would be perfect 🥲
Greenry · 46-50, M
@LaurenRae I feel you there. Mine is physically demanding. I did do a year where I worked 3, 18 hour shifts/week back to back. Loved it. But I was also 10 years younger. Don’t think I could pull it off anymore.

I've worked 12hour shifts 7 days a week during the pandemic. Supposed to of been paid $10 extra an hour + overtime, after the first 8 hours. Which they never paid me! Never again will I put up with that.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
Yes, I have worked all of those shifts (except that the 12hr. shifts were 4 days a week), and I did overtime for all of those shifts at times.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Depends on what would I do. If I could just sit and sip my tea for at least 2 hours in a day, 10 hour shift, 4 days a week doesn't sound bad. 😆
NYCChick · 31-35, F
i work 12 hours a day 5 days a week thats what it takes to make a good living now a days
Greenry · 46-50, M
@NYCChick sadly yes. I just did a 12 day stretch with 10 hour shifts. So glad for this weekend. Hang in there :)
NYCChick · 31-35, F
