Was made redundant from an IT support role a year ago. Imagined the AIpocalypse so I went and got a forklift licence, drove around a warehouse for 6 months. Got offered another opportunity back in my previous industry, so I'm back to white collar for now.
But I'm not naive, the AI wave is coming again eventually, I'm staying at this new place because it's great for my resume but I'm diversifying

@plungesponge Hey man thank you for sharing your story. A lot of people are saying "embrace AI" but we never hear real life negative affects that AI had on people. We need more like you to share their story, I appreciate it.
Good to diversify your resume. Hopefully you won't get unlucky again.

@Starguy my biggest advice for anyone who works on a computer all day: Assess your boss, then assess your CEO. If they are the kind of people that might throw you under the bus to get AI qualifications into the team, start getting ready. Remember your boss might be super nice, but if they aren't in control, they are just following the orders of the bloodsuckers upstairs.
Check if your company has made clear plans to incorporate AI and explained how they will upskill employees for that outcome. If they have said nothing, they likely have no plan, the real plan is they are just waiting for an "AI transformation expert" to come along and tell them what genius leaders they will be by replacing your yearly salary with some code, regardless of whether that code is up to scratch or not.
