What should I even say?

I was in a car accident Tuesday on my way to work and I’m currently 8 months pregnant. My doctor checked me the same day and everything was good but she told me to rest for until Thursday I can resume back to work. I went to work yesterday and I was fine but I started to get anxious driving to and especially from work. And now today, Friday, I’m 10 minutes late as of now because I’ve been puking from nerves. I’ve made it halfway down the road to work but just couldn’t handle it. I drove back home and now I’m sitting outside my house debating what to do. I feel so bad calling in again.

Your reaction isn't all that uncommon, and being pregnant with an unborn child to worry about makes it worse. I've known other people who had the same reaction and most got over it after a short time.

Try to find someone who can drop you off and pick you up for a while. It will get better as time passes.

Your health and baby are more important

Accidents happen.
If you've no doubt that's all it was, then trust yourself.

If you start thinking about all the what ifs in life you'll paralyse yourself from doing anything.
And driving is the least of them.

Would you feel safer taking a cab ?
@Picklebobble2 yeah being dropped off sounds more comforting. I think it was scary being alone and in the accident. At least if the chance of another accident happens at least I wouldn’t be alone that time.

Try calling or taxi or getting someone to drive you to and from for now

Start maternity leave early (I know everybody wants it all after the birth but sometimes the world conspires against us, having said that I think that could well be a valid claim from the insurance assuming the other person in the accident was at fault).

use taxi or bus for now

I can quite understand you're feeling nervous about driving again after an accident, especially being pregnant. Your "protective hormones" are kicking in. Can you take a cab or arrange a lift with a colleague?

You're traumatized. That's to be expected after a major car wreck. I should know. The only thing for it now is to either call in or work up the nerve to continue driving. And Monday, you should maybe make arrangements to carpool.
@LordShadowfire yes it’s just crazy cause I was fine yesterday at first but I think once the nerves of driving settled in I realized how scared I was. And now today it’s unbearable. I will be looking into getting dropped off until I can shake the nerves

@Lupepnte PTSD sometimes just pops out of nowhere. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I am so sorry this happened. What you are feeling is normal because you had an accident and you’re pregnant.

Can someone drive you to work? Can you talk to someone about the accident to get over this anxiety?
