Do you ever think..

You just live to work? I’m mentally and physically exhausted. I like my job but I feel like I barely have a life outside of it, almost all my money goes into bills, what’s the end goal here.
I was just thinking about that last night. How my social life is non-existent. I am going to a get-to-gether in March. I haven't been to it in one year! One whole year! Working nights means I function on a life opposite to others! So I must try harder to get out and around people. I want to date! And with my jeep getting smashed up. And all the rigamarole with that. How many others live pay cheque to pay cheque? I cannot save a cent. Seriously. Can you take a break daily? Do the things that make your heart race? I have hobbies and I do hike and write, etc. Soon Spring. Then I get outdoors a lot more. Make a list. Do those things. It will feel better. Seriously.
@DHggmu You must make the time off just for you. Your brain is too busy. Life is about balancing work and pleasure. It took me until the past few years to do this well and with satisfaction. You can experiment. I can feel your frustration and fatigue. Make a list. Things you like or want to try. Do one at a time. Start your day positively. Things you are grateful for. It starts when you open your eyes. You control your life. You react. You bslance. You learn to.

@PoetryNEmotion Thank you, I’ll take a look at it.

It’s good advice and something I would say to others who feel the same, but taking your own advice isn’t always easy.. but I will try. Thank you for yours words.

Funnily enough, I came home early from work today feeling unwell, and I hated doing it. Maybe guilt as I do love my job, but even so I don't have much of a social life. I hardly ever go out after work for an evening, and I spend the weekends with my sister and mum shopping, or going for dinner at my parents on Sundays. Yes, money is all for bills and the necessities, it is all we seem to work for.

@Jemimapuddleduck I can relate to that, I’ve never had a day off sick at my current job, if I know it’s busy like it is now, I refuse to take my holiday days. Although how I’m feeling right now I think I need some time off.

I wouldn’t even be social with any time off, I’d just want to actually relax a bit. I’ve been in my first house for a year and felt like I haven’t been able to just enjoy having my own space.

I’m lucky enough to have some seasonal time off to decompress and regroup, but I’m about to be back in the thick of it. Very long, stressful hours with only one day off a week. And by the end of my shift, there isn’t a muscle that doesn’t ache. I’m not looking forward to it, especially when the paycheck is basically enough to cover groceries and maybe one small bill. But at the same time I’m extremely thankful to even have this job, even if it seems like I work so hard to not even be in a position to put anything back for savings. Sitting with the reality of that cycle can eat your soul alive though. You absolutely have to make the time and the energy to not be the person who is barely making it work. It’s just so incredibly hard to do sometimes.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart I'm so sorry my friend. I remember those days. Sending positive energy and thoughts. 🤗🤗🤗

@Livingwell Thank ya. Ain’t nothing my big girl parties can’t handle. Maybe. 😄
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@PerfectionOfTheHeart You echo my thoughts. I like my job and grateful for it, I guess not everyone can say that. But when it comes to the cost of everything, it’s the be all and end all almost.
exexec · 61-69, C
No. I always made time for family and outside activities away from work. There were some extremely busy times, such as when we were writing proposals, and I had to work longer hours. Fortunately, I was in a position that allowed me some freedom to set my own schedule.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@exexec I just feel like I don’t have the energy to do anything else. All my energy goes into work. I have a few health conditions that mean I have low energy too, adds to it a lot.
exexec · 61-69, C
@DHggmu I am sorry you are in that type of work and health situation. If your company has a good Human Relations person/staff, it would be good to talk to them. If it continues to be a burden, a career change would be in order, if possible.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Yeah, either you have plenty of time but not excess of money to spend or you have money but no time to spend them. Or if you have both, it's hard to synchronize your free time with free time of other people.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@CrazyMusicLover It seems like all I say to friends and family is “sorry I’m working. More overtime this week. Too tired”
Bleak · 36-40, F
There’s so much work going at online platforms. Have you ever tried it??
I mean less time consuming and more money.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@Bleak I’ve only ever worked in physical jobs tbh. But I guess it’s something to consider eventually. Not sure where I’d start haha.
Bleak · 36-40, F
@DHggmu I can understand. But you can do your research and take your time. Stay blessed!

Work totally gets in the way of life. But then, the billions of us who need to work to live are stuck in that cycle. We're allowed to make enough to make it to next week, but that's it.

@Blanchy Oh that’s interesting. More and more it seems to me that we are just drones, and that’s what was always intended.
