50 dollar minimum wage

The higher minimum wage would just raise the cost of living and make it a two class system. This would make it to where you have the system of politicians and millionaires versus everyone else. Currently nurses make between 25 and $75 per hour. This would put an annual wage of about $100,000 which is more than teachers law enforcement and most any other worker currently makes without overtime.

We went from 3.76 in 1988 to 7.50 in 2023 basically doubled in 35 years now people want to go from 7.50 to 50.00 with out skilled labor.
MethDozer · M
@dale74 $7.50 is nothing in 2023. That's paper route money. Unlivable
You got to remember the actual dollar amount is kinda meaningless. Inflation and what the buying power is. Someone making $7.50 in 2023 is making less once adjusted than minimum wage in the 1960s. You'd have to make just under $14 an hour to be making the same amount (buying power) to equal a 1969 minimum wage

When companies don't and minimum wage don't adjust for inflation to maintain buying power. Employers are paying their employees less and getting more labor for less work. So it's basically wage theft to not increase their wages as inflation rises.

@MethDozer still nowhere near 50
MethDozer · M
@dale74 no, But also get it. You come at the power structure hard as you can if you want to get anywhere.
dale74 · M
@MethDozer but you can come at it with a bunch of little ones that they look like fools if they don't agree to like increasing it to $10 an hour and then in a year or so 15 and then you can push for 20
MethDozer · M
@dale74 mini um should be at least $15-$20. There's no good reason it shouldn't be
dale74 · M
@MethDozer I'm not sure where you're located but where I'm at capitalism is actually working labor is being paid higher than minimum wage matter of fact you'd have a hard time finding a job paying minimum wage even McDonald's is I think 2 to $3 above minimum wage here cuz I think McDonald's starts people out here at $14 an hour Walmart 17. Minimum wage where I live is $11 an hour at a state level. So if they were to push for let's say $15 an hour or $14 an hour it would pass without too much trouble then you come back in a few years and you try to get it up to 20. If you jump for 20 from the get-go you're going to have too much push back.

@dale74 Oh totally, incremental increase over a few short years is how it usually goes

NY btw, we just moved to $15 do upstate, NYC is higher because .... Reasons. It will go up again next year.
dale74 · M
@MethDozer the only problem is everybody making 20-25 an hour don't necessarily always see a pay increase they just see the minimum wage getting closer and closer to their career
MethDozer · M
@dale74 There is that but studies have shown in the long run wages increase across the board eventually. People will leave if they can find easier lower stress work for similar pay and businesses have to work with that

That's also why I think we need to start considering maximum wages and profit caps on the shareholder and CEO levels. Not a set amount but a percentage of the total earnings has to go to employees wages and the top earner can only make a set percentage more than the lowest paid worker.
dale74 · M
@MethDozer but not like they were trust me raising the minimum wage destroys the middle class
MethDozer · M
@dale74 No it doesn't. The middle class is already shrinking and unattainable for most. Every attempt to try and save it is being at to asked by the GOP and the right in favor of upper class.. minimum wage and government regulation of business and unions are the only protections the middle class has against a buisness and ownership class that actively is at war with them and labor as nothing but a resource and commodity to be exploited.
MethDozer · M
@dale74 Don't fall into their trap of toxic thinking. Others being raised up to your level isn't an attack on you and doesn't hurt you. Class hierarchies are dumb.
