Work is annoying

I have a Gluten intolerance.
A lady offered me some cake. 🍰

Me: no thank you, I don't need any.
Her: yes you do, it's SO good
Me: no I don't, because I have a gluten intolerance, it's not an allergy, but an intolerance and I'd rather not have tummy problems.

Her: oh poor thing
Me: nope, there are plenty of things that are gluten free AND taste good (and others that are horrible)

I hate that people just don't take " NO THANK YOU" for an answer. Why do I have to give an explanation, so that you don't cut me a piece of cake that I do not want/need. 🙄🙄🙄🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙄🙄🙄

Even my mother doesn't listen. Still busy me cake every year for birthday, despite me asking her not to. Even buys HER favorite flavor, one that I absolutely hate, for MY birthday

I make my own desserts that are gluten-free if I have a craving for them. I made banana bars this morning, sweetened with stevia. I’m retired but nobody in real life has done this to me. I remember when I was still working and how many would bring sweets to the office especially starting around October and kept doing it till the holidays were over. But even then they didn’t get pushy.

@cherokeepatti then too, I'm always the smallest, so I think they also want me to be fat like them.

@iamnikki probably if they are pushing you to join them

There are now such things as gluten free cake mixes at the store, but you probably won't find those cakes in the office.

I had a similar problem with my mother during b-days. I don't have a gluten intolerance and would have loved cake and ice cream once a year, but Mum was on a gluten free diet and therefore brought gluten free cookies instead. They were ok but I'm not much of a cookie eater. I learned from my family that b-days are not about the b-day person but about everyone else.

@iamnikki True, but Mum didn't usually think of other people's feelings. On my last b-day last year (also her last year of life), Mum asked at the end of the day, "Was this your birthday?" and threw a $20 bill on the kitchen table. It was just her way.

People sometimes try to be too nice because they either have an agenda. Or they are just plain annoying. Don't overthink it dear. Just let them be who they are. Maintain your sanity and peace of mind. You'll be just fine.

@SomeMichGuy I don't know what they think. And these are the same people who are always trying to lose weight. This particular lady literally does laps around the office. 🙄🙄
@iamnikki Even crazier!
