You either work or you starve. Or beg, but begging gets old fast.

calicuz · 56-60, M
Because they have us convinced that we need two cars in the driveway, each costing 800 dollars a month, a home that costs 5 times what it should, and run our kids to soccer, dance class, ballet, martial arts, because God forbid we let our kids play outside and use their imagination. Then, because everyone is so busy working and running around, no one has time to cook dinner so it's off to McDonalds or any assortment of "Fat Food joints" there are to choose from.

Shall I go on?
calicuz · 56-60, M
@Punches

Yes, I could have gone on, but stopped myself. 😅
The only thing I would not argue with is the "private education," unfortunately the public schools are horrible these days. So horrible I wouldn't even call it an education. They are literally dumbing down the masses. 😞
Punches · 46-50, F
@calicuz My ex room mate went to some private school for a couple years.
Seems it is no different. Of course the moms of all the little Johnnys also thinks HE is too good for public schools too. So, you end up with the same bull.

@calicuz exactly

Depending where you live in the USA the cost of living can be extremely high, due to the lack of a “middle class” ( which some theorize is what the USA government is trying to get rid of… so the rich will always have people working for them guaranteed..) @Godgundam91
Cause everything is too expensive

SO WE CAN RULE THE WORLD! mwahahahahahahahahahaaaaa!
Spumoni · 46-50, M
It's a work ethic handed down to me from dad, grandfather. I enjoy my career and being part of a large cog that supports commerce.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@Spumoni

Unfortunately, we've been handed down propaganda that teaches us to work hard for the good of a "multibillion dollar company" that we are meaningless to.

To blame the other guy for the debt thing.
SW-User
Are they chasing the Dream or perhaps trying to convince themselves that they are actually living it?
@SW-User If they were living it..........they wouldn't still be working non-stop.
I rarely miss an opportunity to make fun of them but this is a rather universal issue because times are tough

We're slackers compared to Japanese.
Because everything’s so expensive.
I do it because poor sucks and rich beats the shit out of almost any other kind of life.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Because The Americans dream for most people is being in debt. Not realizing they are actually slaves to the lenders they owe money to. Just to show off success or keeping up with the jones
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@empanadas Agreed

Eh, it's a long story that involves the toxic Portestent work ethic, systematically collapsed labor movements, a government owned by buisiness interests, right to work, employment at will, high expenses, and impotent worker rights.

This nation highly favors buisiness, rent seeking, and profits over people. The rights of capital always come first and formost here.
