Because they have us convinced that we need two cars in the driveway, each costing 800 dollars a month, a home that costs 5 times what it should, and run our kids to soccer, dance class, ballet, martial arts, because God forbid we let our kids play outside and use their imagination. Then, because everyone is so busy working and running around, no one has time to cook dinner so it's off to McDonalds or any assortment of "Fat Food joints" there are to choose from.
Shall I go on?

@calicuz They do not have two cars. More like two pick ups that are as big as a semi truck rig.
It is their 16 year old kids who get the brand new cars (which the parents pay for).
Do not forget the multiple costs of the kennel of five or more 1,000 pound beasts. Fed, taken to the vet, dog sitters if they want to travel, insurance, etc.
Then they need THE latest iphone for each family member, at only $1,500 a pop.
Of course the ridiculous cost of sending their kids to private schools because their little brats are too good for anything else.
They think they need all that plus what you mentioned. Gotta maintain that dream suburban life.
I prefer my life. No kids, no animals, $50 phone that works fine, not working a ton of hours, a paid-off Honda that doesn't need much, I am not trying to impress the Jones's...
All that crap people seem to want and have, is it even worth it? It is like they are working to pay for more burdens.
