Desperately trying to find a new job.

What does it mean when a job starts calling your references…but is only able to speak with one of them while playing phone tag with the others, and not responding when you reach out with other references? Have they given up and moved on to other candidates, or are they still considering you and will keep trying the references since you’ve told them they are aware? Does it also mean that they are researching and making sure your application is telling the truth?

They told me I would know by Friday, but I guess since they were unable to reach most of my references, it’s taking them longer. But honestly, I don’t know if that’s the whole reason. The suspense is killing me, and I’m running out of time to find a better job before my current job throws me onto the floor to take calls…and I’m not looking forward to this client. It’s going to totally screw up my schedule, plus they only give 10 minute breaks times and the average call handle time is crazy short. And that’s not all.

There’s so much more that’s worse about this job, I can’t think straight. Back to back calls, and the training isn’t that great before we’re shoved onto the floor. I could go on and on. It makes me anxious just thinking about it. I left this company for a good company with better values…just for this company to eat them several months later….then like, a year later, we got sucked into one of their awful clients almost like the one I had before. The only real difference is that this client isn’t tech support. I just wanna cry.

In my experience (and I’ve done a lot of hiring) the timing always takes longer than communicated. Referees aren’t available, managers aren’t available for approval, John Doe was sick, etc etc.

It will happen in its own time. Don’t read too much into a delay.

@ButterRobot thank you for putting me a little more at ease. I really need this job, and I hope they get back with me very soon.

Firms will follow up up references but if it's taking too long getting a response (phonecall/email etc) then they'll just move on to an equally-qualified applicant with more easily verifiable references.

Did she thank you

Well, it doesn’t matter now if she did or didn’t. I was told today that I am great and all, but they found someone else to fill the position. @LandOfOz

I remember all that rubbish. It's why I don't work for an employer. It's a horrible life situation. It's a lose lose situation.
