My experience with software companies hasn't been the best. CEOs that I have known seem to be very paranoid and sometimes have irrational fists over trivial matters.

@DDonde yes and no. If you work as an agency and develop software, but instead the company is structured as a workers coop, no one would struggle financially. Kantega in Sweden did that, it's considered one of the best places in Europe to work.

There would’ve had to have been something in writing stating that you can’t be elsewhere employed.Lots of people have more than one job nowadays. The cost of living some places makes it almost imperative.
