Yes, I would take the job. It is at least a beginning to work and I can change later in a better job
No, I wouldn't work for so less money.

Imagine, you are unemployed since a long time and then someone wants to employ you for a few hous in one month. You would earn 450 Dollar in this job, but because you get unemployment benefits you have to give back 350 Dollar from the salary so that there are only 100 Dollar remain what you actually would earn in your job.

Would you nevertheless take this job or would you reject to work for so less money?

I definitely would. The benefits we get out of jobs are not just money. You get skills too, something to write on your CV. Something to be able to talk about in an interview to land a better job.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@BittersweetPotato I agree 💯 % with you. Those are exactly my thoughts too.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
@Loretta78 I have a brother who's been unemployed his ENTIRE life. I remember once he had a job opportunity that had to do with sales, he said he won't take it because he will only get paid commission if he gets results. I thought to myself, right there, this is exactly why you are always unemployed. Firstly, you assume you are gonna fail at getting results, so you are not even trying to succeed. Secondly, you are not realising the obvious thing, that a probability of getting paid, is better than zero probability of getting paid because you are at home doing nothing. And that EVEN if you get paid nothing, at least you can write on your cv that you worked and you will hundred percent learn a thing or two while on the job, meet new people etc.

I fucking hate his attitude.

@BittersweetPotato You are so right with everything you've said.

I have worked in my life already for lesser than 100 Dollars. But it was better for me to write in my CV that I am working in whatever for a job, that I have these and those skills....

This helped me to get the good job which I am having already since many years now.

I don't envy your brother how he handle the things with work. But I guess he's not the only person who thinks like that.

I am glad that you, his sister, thinks different. 💚

The only time I took work when I was unemployed was when it was under the table. I knew I would be looking for work in months to come, covering a pregnancy leave, in a line of work I never worked in for my sister's firm. So I collected EI benefits, past the limitation now for me to say it, and let me get me back on my feet. If I had said anything, I would have been cut off from employment benefits (sad term Canada has for unemployment), and my EI would have been given more time. So I gambled, they wouldn't find out, saved, and found work again?
Better to work than to sit idle.
But if you practically hv no savings and no one to depend upon, in tough times, go with those so called unemployment benefits.

But staying idle needs a lot of energy. One can't 😴 the whole day, everyday.

Ultimatum yes or no type stuff 😖 however it seems that you have a Free-Loader on your hands. If I was 350 in the hole I'd take the job and get that taken care of but I'm not sure how the system works nowadays. 🤔
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
No, the employer is already scamming someone by pretending to pay you $450 when they are only paying you $100.00.

I would imagine they'll have no qualms about scamming you when needed.
Scarfface · 46-50, M
It doesn't seem fair but it's best to earn your way. The extra 100 will soon add up plus you get to do work that'll keep you occupied and busy.
I would have no choice in the matter. If I were to turn the offer of work down, then I would lose my unemployment "benefits".

That's how the system works in England now. You can't even take a holiday without spending it looking for and applying for jobs either at home or where you currently are.

You are required to spend 8 hours a day looking for work - including on Christmas Day.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@HootyTheNightOwl The system is not exactly the same in Germany - but similar.
@Loretta78 Ours is so bad that the EU is speaking out against it...
It's why retired people here often won't take jobs. It gets taken back by the government
Viper · M
Depends on how valuable your time is, and how much time and frustration the job would take up, and how good would it look on a resume, and if you believe you could use the job in the employer as a reference for the future.
Milkshake · F
depends on the job... if its something where you can improve and learn something or do somethign actually useful for the community yes...
if its something just so someone else gets richer.. no way

I wouldn't take this job.
I can acquire skills in different ways, I could also study something so I can start with something better.
MarieUK · 36-40, F
@SW-User but there is no mention of what the job is, I make great yorkshire puddings so I'm hoping its that 😂
SW-User
@MarieUK I'm basing it purely on money received vs time spent.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
Nah. The money is too less.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 Won't do another job for just a few dollars more. Can think about a side business though.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@YMITheWayIM This question was meant when you are completely unemployed. But when you have already a job so of course you don't need to take still another job. 🙂
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
@Loretta78 I am usually jobless because of the behavioural condition I have to live with, but I got your point.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I would take it so I can try to ultimately get off unemployment benefits
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Jenny1234 Good idea.
MarieUK · 36-40, F
I'd ask if I could do it for $350 cash in hand 😊
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@MarieUK This wouldn't be possible. Atc least not in my country.
MarieUK · 36-40, F
@Loretta78 I thought all countries used Cash ☺️
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
Depending on the job and the skills I'd learn doing it, how much I like the environment etc.
Otherwise my answer is nope, 100 is really not enough to help my life and I'd look for something else.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Why didn't you just say you wanted people to say to take the job? Instead expressing amazement at anyone who didn't say that.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@Zeusdelight I guess you see that a little bit wrong.

Indeed I would prefer to take the job even for less money.

But I also could accept when someone doesn't take the job because of other reasons.

But when there's more or less no explanation you have to allow me at least to express my amazement.
The people here who would take the job explained it well WHY they would take it.

The only person who explained in a good statement
why you wouldn't take the job was you.

It is just that I don't share your opinion about the scamming.

Although I think that it is a little bit unfair that the employer only earns 100 Dollar instead 450 Dollar I don't see it as scamming because the employer gets beside this little salary still the benefits.

When you see it in a different way I don't blame you and everyone can have his own opinion. But I might at least have the permission to express my amazement when I am.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Loretta78 No worries. Thanks for the reply.
Torsten · 36-40, M
take it and build up your resume. If you decide to leave, at least you have recent work experience that will look better when applying to other jobs
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Other! I don't like promoting this whole system. It's a society issue. The whole system is wrong. Would say even immoral.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
depends if you like or love the job then it could be like being a slave to love which is great
Whyme · 46-50, M
The other possible motivation could be just to get out if the house and be social
iamelijah · 26-30, M
Just 100? For a month? I'll hope I get free rent.
Man, that is too much.
