My husband used to complain about this, he became seen as a fixer. He was often hired in because hes very capable at his job, but suspected that they hired him to fix their issues. He wanted to create! not fix. But over time, this skill made him sought after. They pay him very well to do this. So, he creates in his spare time, when he has any.
Being the fixer has value. But, it sort of sucks.

@nonsensiclesnail Nancee used to do that kind of work before she got promoted. She thought she was always RIGHT. I did it because the supervisor said so.
