Why would a coworker who doesnt even talk to you, send you a request on LinkedIn?

We used to be on the same team. She was very distant.
I'm on a new team now.

I saw her in the hall. She was standing in the doorway of a room, and was looking down the hall at me.

I had just come in the building, and she was looking. I was gonna just say hi but as I got close, she quickly went into that room.

weirdos🙄🤷‍♀️

Wants to snoop into your business is why
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti I don't post to linked in. I don't even think I'll post my new job there. As you said, it's just a way to keep tabs on folks
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@iamnikki she doesn’t want to ask you anything in person, just wants to snoop. Some people have a need to be nosy.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti why not just snoop then. Like why request someone? It's weird.

I had a similar situation with a girl I worked with several years ago. She was a hot mess and wasn't that great of an employee. She made up stuff to try and get me fired, but was unsuccessful. About 6 months ago, I ran into her in the grocery store...she told me that she applied where I work now and asked, 'If I could do something for her.' "Yeah...you bet!!"

I was forever getting LinkedIn requests, which I completely ignored. It always felt as if the place wanted to take from me more than it had to offer..
Elessar · 26-30, M
It's like those girls who snob me irl but put likes/hearts whenever I post a pic of myself online 🤷‍♂️
Adstar · 56-60, M
She sounds like a socially awkward person.. Maybe she is more able to socialize over the net then in real life..
QueenandCrown · 41-45, F
Honestly I've come across a lot of people who have insecurities. They follow from a distance or lurk behind social media platforms. They're in competition with you, your looks, your lifestyle.
I've even had people to tell me that they wanted to be me. I don't know about you but I think that's very odd.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@QueenandCrown yes it is odd

I ignore those
Northwest · M
It's a pretty common thing to do. I get these requests constantly.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Northwest I don't get why they would though. The purpose of link is for job referrals , job help etc. You're not gonna put in a good word for me and I'm not for you either 🤷‍♀️ so what's the point?
Northwest · M
@iamnikki I get your point, but it's something people are encouraged to do. The size and reach of your social network plays a significant part in recruiters' decision to contact you, when jobs are available.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Northwest right. I get that but like I said , I'm not putting in a food word for you, and vice versa so why even be associated?
HermannFegelein · 26-30, M
Sometimes I get one just because they know a guy who knows a guy who knew a guy that worked at the same place I used to work at.
summersong · F
That’s what LinkedIn is for. I don’t even know half of the people in my connections.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@summersong to my understanding, LinkedIn is for job references and keeping up with colleagues that one actually has a good relationship with. To help with future job prospects. I'm not adding random people nor people that don't like me to my linked in
REMsleep · 41-45, F
People may think of social media differently than you do. I come across people that want to add me on facebook or Linkedin after meeting one time or only after I've left the job where we worked together for years. They don't view it as a friendship its just networking I guess to increase their connections.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@REMsleep I'm find with someone I've only met one time wanting to add me on social media, as long as they are friendly etc. Like I stated, this chick does not speak to me, not even when we worked on the same team. How is that networking? I'm pretty sure she won't put in a good word for me and vice versa so..🤷‍♀️
