overwhelmingly necessary, i have sensory issues
SW-User
@poisonouscupcake Me too, i'm really sensitive to sound, smell, feel. It's so annoying.
poisonouscupcake · 22-25, F
@SW-User sound is my biggest one, i can get really crazy over it and i live with people who don’t understand it so it does really suck lol i really envy people who can deal with it normally
SW-User
@poisonouscupcake I understand, the slightest noises at night wake me up and neighbours noises drive me crazy. Yes other people say i'm being over sensitive but i can't help it. It all just creates anxiety though.

@SW-User i don’t think they’d ever understand unless they experienced it but it’s so so real when it happens to us

@poisonouscupcake I own ear plugs and i wear them when i go out to the shopping mall etc, i usually have to sleep with them in. I use to think my parents were yelling when they were talking normally. School.. omg it was so noisy in classrooms, i couldn't cope.

@SW-User i got homeschooled during high school so thankfully i didn’t have to deal with it but before then public school was awful, ear plugs are a great idea i’m gonna have to use them😺

@poisonouscupcake I think I might have sensor issues, compounded with ADD.

If certain things are happening, very little chance I'm focusing.
poisonouscupcake · 22-25, F
@Viper my family jokes about buying me noise canceling headphones but i really do need them lol even the littlest noises overwhelm me into great anxiety and if i have to do a task i can’t focus on anything but that noise
SW-User
@poisonouscupcake School was terrible because groups of kids like to make so much noise, i hated it. The best ear plugs are the clear wax ones... do you know those? They work the best. The don't help with low frequencies but help the higher ones like voices and power tools etc.

@poisonouscupcake Maybe a tangent but I have this idea that most people have one sense that is most easily entertained and one that is most easily annoyed.

For me, what I hear is entertaining (unless it is the dogs next door) and my most easily annoyed - smell.

I am guessing you "easy to annoy" sense is hearing.

Now about your family, maybe instead of buying you special headphones, they could buy themselves noise canceling muzzles.

@SW-User for sleeping nosies can I suggest at least trying white noise to help with that.

I personally use a fan as my room needs more air flow anyways. But you can also buy a white noise machine or download white noise apps.

I got white noise baby sleep sounds, but if you find something you can relax to it can be so nice. There are Rivers and oceans, which help me relax but not to sleep, the fan one (it sounds worse but) drowns out all other noises which works best for me.

Not saying it will work, but it might be helpful :)

@poisonouscupcake noise canceling headphones are pretty cool, my college had them in their testing center. When there was an annoying test taker, it could be helpful.

Though with me, I think I've found that no noise can be just as much of a problem, as if there is no noise then what's going on? My mind starts wondering.

At least for me, non-distracting background noise works best, which is why I used to love Nascar... other than the crashes, it was great background noise which you could just easily ignore lol

I guess white noise works best for me.

@Viper Hey thanks! I actually have four sources of white noise... some times i have them all on at once if it's a bad night. I have a floor fan, AC wall fan, an air purifier and then my phone has a white noise thing it plays when i go to sleep. Sometimes i need them all on to drown out the sound of the trucks on the freeway. Also the air purifier helps remove all the nitrogen dioxide from the exhaust fumes that builds up in my room from the vehicles.

@SW-User sure thing, though sounds like you got that covered lol

In my old house, there was a man made creek draining the entire neighborhood that ran quite near my room, like less than 50 ft (15 meters) from my room, it was no threat to come out of its banks.

But near my room, there was a big drop, which was basically like a water fall, I'd sleep so d@#$ well when it rained with that there :)
SW-User
@Viper Yeah nothing beats the sound of water for sleeping, i really love it! :)
