I'm making a wooden bowl to collect rainwater in. Is it going to be contaminated by the wood? Read full story below before answering:

I'm making a wooden bowl to collect rainwater in. I will not put any form of substance on top of the wood such as glacing etc. No glacing! Just regular wood carved out with a rock.

I am very into "survival prepping" and "primitive technology". Thus I am wondering: my wooden bowl rainwater "invention": Is the water going to be contaminated by the wood?

For instance, if the wood dissolves into the water as the bowl gets filled?

I also have a second question: what did people drink from in medieval times and stone age times who were so poor they could not afford much material or find much material? What did they use (besides horns, silver, copper)?

Wood is a semi-porous material that will let some of the water seep in and eventually crack it. It may also cause the wood to rot and grow mold. You might be better off with clay if you can afford it or just prepare to make a lot of bowls.
