how would you deal with a saboteur at work?

i was hired into a new job. next year i'm transitioning into a managing position. the fellow who is currently in that role is supposed to be training me. we were friends, he actually helped get me hired. now that i'm here, i get the feeling that he's doing some underhanded sabotaging. he leaves me off important emails, he doesn't let me know about meetings until the last minute. i asked to meet with him to go over job details, when i first moved to town and he kept blowing me off for weeks before we finally met.

what do you do in that situation? the funny thing is i don't even care for the position, but it's not something i can't really get out of.

Just talk to him about it. See if he’s able to handle that feedback. I worked with a narcissist like that who did that to me for 3 years. Unlike you, he didn’t help me in anyway, rather got my help to save his own ass. He was even reporting my work as his to the higher management without having a clue about it. In the beginning he had a chat with me about a disagreement, but later he kept on doing the same thing over and over again and I stopped talking to him. He was one of reasons I quit. I just can’t stand certain personalities that are ignorant, arrogant and vile.

@SW-User if i confronted him about it, he'd totally deny it. i really hate underhanded shit. i'd rather just be direct.

Then be direct. To be honest you’ll meet these kind of people everywhere.@blindbob

@SW-User yeah, sucks that it's coming from a friend. i might just ask him straight up if he wants to keep the position.
SW-User
Yeah seems like he’s desperate for it. @blindbob

@SW-User i don't know why. there's no extra pay. no bonuses. i think he just likes the title "director" on his business card.
SW-User
Yup, ego and to feel good about himself and tell people he’s something. There’s no point accepting that position. You are a sensible person. @blindbob

@SW-User unfortunately, i have to have the position for at least a year.
