To earn decent money as a social worker you'd prob need a psych degree
Azoica · 26-30, F
I plan to pursue a degree in either Psychology, Sociology or Social work. So that's my dilemma that I need to finalise.
In my country, they are saying that Social work is getting recognised by the government, so Psychologists and Social Workers are getting a rise in salary. (Ageing Population)
Then I'm wondering, which is better in the long run?

@Azoica: with a psych degree you'd be qualified for all those

No. psych degree is an experimental study of humans. Social work is a practical discipline. If you want practical discipline with psychology, you have to do masters or PhD, you won't be qualified with just a psych degree.
With social work. You can work with the degree. @Despina:

@DaveLiam78: So do you think that a Psych Degree would be more versatile?
Since I'll be able to pursue my masters or either just work as a social worker?

@Azoica: doing masters takes time. Your time is more valuable. What I did is psych degree and I specialized. Into two particular fields. Because psych degree is not valuable. But ur experinec is valuable

@DaveLiam78: What field did you specialised in?
Hmm that makes sense. Masters require a lot of money and time to pursue.
So I may or may not pursue that depending on how I fair for the course.
Yeah I have seen a fair bunch of people who end up being teachers or HR with a Psychology Degree.
So my main question is:
I'm not sure whether I want to be a Psychologist / Something people related like HR or a Social Worker.
So should I pursue a Psychology Degree or a Social Work Degree?
