Why do employers make you send a resume, when they will also make you fill out an online application?

You stress out over making your resume perfect, but then for every job you’re really interested in, you have to do an online application anyway. (Don’t get me started on those goddamn online applications.) It seems like a lot of wasted effort.

I agree 100% with you. I filled out online applications and it has been a nightmare. Most of them go through other agencies that claim to help you but in reality they do nothing but get your information so they can harass you constantly trying to get you to sign up for other services (and charge you). And don't get me started on resumes...most jobs I apply for don't need or require a resume and yet a lot of those applications won't even let you continue to fill it out unless you add one. And getting an online one is a joke in itself...a lot of sites say they'll help you do it for free, and they will help you make a nice one for free, but then you have to subscribe to their site and pay in order to use it (I was unemployed and money tight, and you want to charge me to help me get past that? Really?). These companies and businesses need to get off their lazy and greedy asses and go back to the old fashioned paper applications, plain and simple. It's no wonder people have such a hard time finding work (and these employers are always saying that they're hurting for workers...I wonder why).
