I work in retail. I have a coworker who works the same department as me. I come in at 3pm. The area including the fitting room is always a mess. Clothes falling off hangers, clothes on the floor. In the fitting rooms,clothes on floor, in abandoned baskets, huge pile 9f hangers on the floor. Obviously, no one cares to go in and check the fitting rooms or do any work because they know that I'm coming in a little later. So this co-worker decides to come in and check on the fitting room and told me that they didn't know it was that bad. It's Saturday people have gotten their income tax so you know that the store is busy so why not come in and check. I feel im being taken advantage of. So i spend my entire workday cleaning up what coworker messed up/ let get out of hand plus, handling the swarm of nonstop customers in the rooms and shopping, knocking clothes on the floor.

*****Before you talk down to me about working in retail like many people like to do, and to find a new job, please know that I'll be done with college in 2 months. *****

is there no manager or supervisor you can talk too, take pictures with your phone, you dont need that B/s
@iamnikki go to head office... If they ignore you, you can take it further.

@MiaMorrow thought about it. Its ridiculous. And thats why the store looks crummy.
Sorry you have to go through this :( x

Just do your job so you don't get fired. Only put extra effort if you need extra money or if you just like your job. If someone else is slacking don't be like them and also slack off but don't overburden yourself with other people's problems either. Hope my advice helps.

It sounds like she's lazy and sticking you with all the work that she doesn't want to do. I guess you could talk to her about it or go directly to your supervisor with your complaints, but I don't know how effective that'll be. If you slack off, that'll make you look bad, so I wouldn't do that.

I would never talk down to you. I have great respect for everyone that busts butt to support themselves. Your current problem is typical. I ran over 100 pizza shops for years and I saw the same thing in kitchen after kitchen when I would visit. The first shift would leave 2nd shift a mess and night shift left the morning people an even worse mess. That was an on-going battle. Knowing you're leaving soon, I suggest you do your best and leave with pride for a job well done! Good luck!!!

@hertoy thank you
Firstly, no one should tell you where to work or where not to work... That's out of order. Many people slob around doing nothing and you are showing good ethic.

Secondly... You need to tell your manager/boss... Maybe confidentially? They would sort it out! It doesn't sound fair at all.
@iamnikki you need to treat them like a baby then and give them times before you go to work where they have to make sure they do their jobs and check places!
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@MiaMorrow what do you mean give them times?
Note down what times you come into work and see all the mess, then give them a timetable of perhaps half hour windows where they need to focus on tidying and checking areas, before you come in...

I’d continue to do my best. It isn’t your job to pick up their slack. If you continue to do it, they have no incentive to do it themselves. They should be checking on it whenever they have a free moment. If they’re busy and can’t that’s another issue.
Keep doing your thing until you move on.

Photograph the mess with your cell phone.Tell your co-worker you will not tidy their mess.If they don't sort it out you will be showing your photos to the manager.Tell your co-worker to never leave another mess for you to sort out it's not acceptable.
