I want to work from home with remote flexible careers
Both the knowadays.com and skillcrush.com courses would give me skills to work remotely on a flexible schedule. And if I added other vocational courses after maybe I could make an extra couple of thousand every month which would be a boon to my wallet. Eventually as I finish courses with certificates of completion and diplomas I can go back to university to finish my degrees on a part time basis and slowly ease into going back to school even if I finish later in life. I would rather learn online in an asynchronous, self-paced, or competency based format which would be a more independent learning style. I prefer the flexibility of not having set log in times and working at my best hours. For asynchronous formats there are weekly and monthly deadlines for assignments. For self paced you could have as much as a couple to a few months to finish your courses in college. And. For competency based it’s based on a subscription plan where the faster you complete your degree the more you save. My overall goal is build skills in which I can work from home. Maybe even make enough someday to give me a decent income. A very good income for me would be $50,000 to $100,000 annually. If I even start at say $30,000-$40,000 annually it would be better than nothing. Even on a very part time basis $25,000 would be a starting point. Although doesn’t make much. I would have to live with some creativity not having to pay market rate rent or a mortgage so I don’t go into debt. I would be lucky to finish a bachelors degree and masters degree by the time I am well into middle age or even old age. I don’t know if I should always stay on disability if I can find another way to live affordably. Living off social security disability benefits comes with many restrictions on how much I can make per month no more than $1,500-$1,600 per month and I can’t have more than $2,000 in my financial assets. I think becoming independent means getting off disability at some point though my parents think I shouldn’t jeopardize the benefits they worked so hard to get me. They say work part time within the allowed income limits to supplement my social security and maybe set me up with a disability trust for extras on top of part time work. I feel conflicted very much about being on disability benefits. On the one hand it’s a safety net that comes with state insurance from the government and qualifies me for discounted housing with HUD and section 8 I think. On the other hand this is not what I wanted for myself. Being reliant on the government to this level has a lot of drawbacks. Even my mental health provider is through the state called the department of mental health. I have a psychiatrist, therapist, a clinician which is like a case worker/manager and a behavioral/ mental health outreach worker. This is not what I thought my adult life would be like but I want flexible employment to work around my life not my life work around my job/career. It would be great to get off disability but very risky if I don’t get consistent freelance work as a self employed freelancer or independent contractor. Or if I hit a slump where I can’t work as much thereby losing potential income. There are a lot of variables at work. But what really makes me think long and hard is that by being on disability I think it’s a way to stay poor and I can’t have much in savings. What a conundrum! I think I could earn more on my own than disability permits and be considered making substantial gainful activity and get cut off but not make enough to live comfortably. Part time careers are ideal for me. Full time work would probably burn me out. I haven’t tried it yet. I have acknowledged with my preferences, temperament, and general circadian rhythm I am not cut out for “regular” jobs. Rigid rules and schedules like a 9-5 and working with the public are big no’s for me. Being called in at last minute I don’t think so. Labor intensive jobs with a lot of physical labor tires me out quickly or working with demanding, rude, entitled individuals makes me lose my temper and sanity. I’m not at peak performance in the morning. My productive, creative, and alert times are the afternoons, evenings, and late overnights into the early hours of the morning. Then when it’s close to sunrise I feel sleepy. My energy picks up at around noon. Eventually my goal is to get up for late morning like at 11:00-11:30 am everyday. I can stay up really late depending on how soon I get tired. I’m a night owl and it varies. I can burn the midnight oil from 4-6 am. People think I can just train my body to be an early riser but even when I went to bed early when I was younger and woke up earlier I was still half asleep in the early to mid morning and struggled to function. That made going to school a real challenge. Society thinks everyone is the same and we are not. The way some people struggle to stay up later then say 9-11 pm. Or people who do best by waking up extremely early as soon as the sun rises or even before then. There are many industries that offer flexible schedules now: proofreading/editing, translation& transcription,, writing and blogging, visual/graphic/digital/web/multimedia design, web development, data analytics, illustration and animation, digital marketing, scoping ( editing legal transcripts for court reporters), even court reporting/broadcast captioning/CART providing may be in shifts but it’s flexible in what assignments you choose so someone could freelance and work in the afternoons instead of mornings in a court room, subtitling, ESL tutoring, medical coding and billing, accounting&bookkeeping, paralegal work, computer programming, cybersecurity, visual arts like being a painter and sketch artist, fashion designer and dressmaker/tailor you can open your business in the afternoon and work afternoons and evenings. Craft and textile fiber artisans, jewelry designers, photography, cinematography, medical scribes, virtual assistants film and video editors, audiobook narrators, and so many other fields. Even if it is not a remote job but you can still do it out of a studio or workspace at flexible times, that’s still better than a job with rigid schedules and rules. A lot of these jobs are in creative fields and in technology roles but it doesn’t have to necessarily be. Even working as a researcher say as a historian or genealogist can be mostly remote and flexible. Anyway the point is I want to work from anywhere with an internet connection so I can be free to have my careers remote and with a flexible schedule on a part time basis. I want to make decent money on a part time schedule.
