Philhellenes, (lovers of the Hellenistic way)

I won't copy and paste from Guthrie here, but suffice it to say he's not of the mind that Greek thinkers are as original as philhellenes of the 19th century felt. Nietzsche among them. No geographical place where historically important people were doing their thing were operating in a vacuum. It's for me just the incredible body of work and work on these Greeks and Romans that call to me, to settle most placidly at the feet of those who actually know what their talking about, and admit most readily when there's lacuna in their understanding, because the resources available are lacking.
