Why is there seemingly no middle ground?

Democrat or republican

Liberal or conservative

Pro or anti abortion

Pro or anti LGBT

Pro or anti Islam

Etc. Etc.

Why do these topics give rise to such deep conflict?

If someone disagrees, are they against you?

Are people comfortable loving and respecting others as they are, feel, believe?

What are your thoughts on these dichotomizing issues that exist today?

It's hard not to be against someone if they are against your own rights

@deadgerbil I get what you mean. But what would middle ground look like?
deadgerbil · 22-25
@Iwantyourhotwife idk, maybe everyone just ignores each other and minds their business

That's hard to do tho if one side is in power and makes rules that directly affect you

Could their be a middle ground on abortion?

A person who is pro life sees a fetus as an actual human and looks at an abortion as the same as murdering a child or an adult

Idk how they could find a middle ground in that instance, and their taxes are being used to kill innocent babies, in their eyes

Similar to women having to give birth when they don't want to for whatever reason. Idk where a middle ground is to be found, esp if one side of the debate is pushing laws on the other

Same with gay marriage, and you can even extend this to interracial marriage. Where's the middle ground if one group is prohibiting or criminalizing you for pursuing a relationship with another fully consenting adult?

And this also hits upon pro or anti Islam. Where's the middle ground for a gay person who lives in an Islamic country where they can be discriminated against, have no legal protections, and be killed by that country and have huge swathes of the population support that or at best turn a blind eye

There are so many issues that warrant people having a clear stance on what is right and wrong

Middle ground on slavery? Women's suffrage? Middle ground on criminalizing and locking up people who have a drug addiction?

So many topics don't deserve to have a middle ground just to pacify and be nice to regressive elements of society

@deadgerbil so, if I understand you, you're saying that sometimes, a matter might be just way too black and white for there to be middle ground based on how the conflict itself is inherently structured.

You gave a great example with regards to the abortion thing. But suppose someone does not wish to side with either and is indifferent. How would they register between zero sum issues?
