Having coffee and observing the staff

There is a new employee, male, about 24 years old.
He has been here less than a week.
I have seen him 3 of those days.
Today I watched him come to work, walking as slowly as possible.
The look on his face was that he most certainly does not want to be at work.
Been at work for 40 minutes now, a totally negative disposition the whole time.
This has been his attitude since he started working here.
Honestly, if I was the owner here, I would send him home and tell him not to come back.
Some of you might say, everyone has a bad day, I am too harsh.
Sure, we all have bad days, but you do not take it to work.

🤨 Why is there such cultural fixation on making people "enjoy" whatever they are doing ,or pretending to enjoy?

Humans experience diverse amount of feelings and psychological states.

Maybe it is even more than just a bad day. Maybe he has a chronic issue and showing up is already his very best. Seeing someone smile shouldn't take priority over their actual well being.

His job isn't clowning.

@Miram In the hospitality it gives a very poor impression walking around among customers

I will be honest with you, no offense intended.

I lived and dealt with multiple cultures and with all the emphasis many western countries place on individualism , it is all a facade. There are plenty of rules to turn humans into similar robots, just brainwash them enough to think it is for the sake of what they want 💰 You can't both put a claim on individualism and isolate any divergent behavior ,even a frowny face. A tattoo. A beard. A head scarf..etc

He isn't actually inviting people to his home. It is just a job to him. Is anyone paying for a smiling clowny face and did he agree to that transaction? If not, he has no obligations. All these unwritten expectations are endless.

At least he showed up!

Over the years hiring new employees has been the largest business challenge I have faced.

Many people's attitudes towards work is absolutely horrible.

Let the owner decide what he wants a good attitude or someone who shows up and does his job!
